Princess hasn't had a low/green nadir in about a week. She's on a lower dose of N since last month when she went down to the 20's. Went from 2u to .5u twice a day. Her #'s havent been too high but she's staying flat lately, without dropping in the green zone, just staying blues. She's getting close to the end of her insulin bottle, but i would expect her preshots to be very high if it lost its effectiveness. She's not showing any signs of being hyper, actually I think she's feeling better....probably due to the lack of her bg dipping & spiking. Any input would be helpful. I know N is frowned upon for cats & not many use it but you all have so much knowledge! Thanks in advance:)

I wish that I had more knowledge to help but, I looked at Princess's SS and to see those blue ranges and the greens is just fabulous to see! :)
I'm sure more advanced and knowledgeable members will answer you soon! :)

Great going though!

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with N insulin so can't offer any firm advice. It looks as though maybe reducing to 0.5 units might have been too much of a reduction, but I don't have the experience to be sure of that. Hopefully someone who knows the action of N in cats will be able to take a look and give you something more definite to work from. :)

@Larry and Kitties - I know you've used a whole lot of different types of insulin. :) Any advice on this one?

Oh, I agree - better to let her run a little high than risk overdosing her. There's no way I'm going to actively recommend you increase the dose - I don't know enough about N - which is why I'm hoping Larry or someone else with N experience will drop by with something more definite for you. Just throwing the idea out there that it just might be a possibility. :)

BJM - I can try! Its such a small dose. It feels like I'm shooting nothing as it is at 0.5 but if i go just above that line I think it could work.

Another tactic is to push the plunger in all the way, insert it into the insulin, and relax the pressure. It'll draw up a drop or so. Eyeball it to see if it is less than 0.5 units - you may need magnifiers!

BJM, Yes , that's what I do now & then push plunger to the proper dose. If I get the plunger just between the first & second line then I think that's .25. I tried with her pm shot tonight. A little tricky but I think it worked... So you think reducing her insulin a little might be better?

If it'll get you 2 shootable numbers - both am and pm - without causing your hair to turn white monitoring the nadir - its worth a shot (so to speak)

So far, so good on 0.25u! hopefully she'll keep up the good work.
Just more proof why home testing is so very important!

Looking great on that new dose! :) And I agree - home testing is vital to catch this sort of situation before it turns into a problem!

Ugh! Princess still has me confused! Since last months very low #'s & decreasing her dose from 2u to 0.5 Im still not sure where to go from here. I tried (trying) 0.25u but doesnt seem like that enough. Started a curve today (chk.SS) and shes been pretty much the same bg# all day! My bottle of N is pretty old, at least 5months- could it be the problem.? Although yesterday she dropped 100, who knows. Thinking of asking vet for a Lantus rx or first just getting a new bottle of N for now since its only $25. If anyone can take a look at her SS, I'd appreciate he help! Thanks
