Jenks is officially off the boil. Sigh. Now we're back into the realm of simply awful numbers.

The skip on the 29th really threw him off, and now I'm not sure what, if anything, we can do to get him back on track. We've moved him back to 3.5U, but at these numbers, I'm pretty confident we'll be back up into the 4's before we see any sort of improvement. Is it really possible for one missed shot to eliminate all of that progress? Was he really just running on a depot for most of that time?

With all the skips and BCS in that short period of time, I'm sure it has thrown off his depot ....as we all know, Lantus craves consistency (although I understand why you did what you did and would have probably done the same thing)

It may just take some time to get him settled again

Is there a reason you jumped from 3.25 to 3.5 after only 3 cycles? It's usually best to give them the whole 6 cycles before evaluating how well the dose is working

You have a failed reduction. He came down the dosing scale a little too fast - which we all knew was a possibility, but you were just taking cues from him - appropriately so. In the case of a failed reduction you don't go through the "wait x cycles before increasing" process.

The instructions are clear from the TRP page:

If an attempted reduction fails, go right back up to the last good dose as soon as you see kitty's numbers trending upwards. You don't have to hold the reduced dose for a certain number of cycles before taking the dose right back up. The guidelines listed under the topic "Increasing the dose" do not apply to a failed reduction.
There's a little more of an explanation of it on the NDW/Bouncing/Failed Reduction post.

If he were mine, I'd go back to 3.5u with the next shot and have my fingers crossed that I didn't have to go up to 4.0u. Might have to, though. He's had some time to get used to these higher numbers in the meantime.

It's usually best to give them the whole 6 cycles before evaluating how well the dose is working
That's true when you're going up the dosing scale originally. It doesn't apply in a failed reduction.

I agree with Chris. Hold each dose at least 6 cycles at this point while you are increasing. Each increase could be setting off a new round of New Dose Wonkiness which might be why those higher numbers. Since you've done one shot at 3.5, stay there and evaluate after 6 cycles.
