A little bit of humour about ear testing

For the last 5 months my Tuxie sweet kitties has been getting his ears poked from 6-12 times a day. I am a little TOO obsessive about testing but Tuxie is very good about it now and always gets a bit of food or chicken or salmon as a reward so he is very willing to go along with it.

His civie sister Maxie has been watching all this and today I guess she felt left out. I called Tuxie to come for his "pokey" and Maxie came over to the testing spot instead and sat on the mat. So I figured "why not??" and did a glucose test on her. She was not as easy going about it but did let me test her. After I finished she walked over to her food dish and looked at me. Looks like Maxie has figured out the routine from watching Tuxie.

I got a good laugh out of this!! :)

It's the moments of humor like this that make the day go so much easier isn't it? :) I think when they're used to getting exactly the same of everything all the time, the civies can feel left out even though you'd think it would be something they don't want to have done!! Now Maxie knows she can get extra food that way too, I reckon you might have both of them lining up to be tested every time! ;)

Very true...Maxie has been sort of "pushed to the back" these last months. I was even feeding her on a table Tuxie couldn't get to so I could keep Tuxie's food intake measured and since Maxie is more of a grazer Tuxie would eat all her food otherwise. Maxie did not like that since for 14 years they have always eaten together. So now I feed them together and sit and wait until she is done, then put her food on the table for later.

That would be too funny if both cats end up lined up for ear pokes :)

Lol you can't tell us obsessive testers that you tested and not give us a number! I'd be more obsessive with testing if I was home more. I tested one of my civies before because he was losing weight (he needed to as he was quite the butterball) and he came in at a nice 50. Whew here, too!

You mean there are people in this forum that are obsessive testers???? I NEVER would have thought that!! LOL

I actually tested Maxie before...she had a UTI and I had a senior panel done at the same time I took her in. Her glucose came back at 14 about 260. I tested her 3 days later when the results came back and she was on AB and it was about what it is today. That will show what infection and stress can do the glucose numbers.

Lol, I poked both Otis and Coco too. Normal numbers, can`t remember exactly, but that was a relief!

For sure Lori...having one sweet kitty is hard enough. I can't imagine some of the people in this forum that deal with more than one at a time. Amazing!!

I poked Regan one night - I don't remember if I was checking the meter, looking for a number that might be close to what I should expect from Rosa as they're twins or just curiosity (or most likely a mixture of all 3). I do remember she got a 71 which was a great relief - right in the middle of normal range an hour after she'd eaten!

My 2 civvies have gotten poked too!!

One was at 43 and the other 57....WHEW!!

Obsessed?? Us?? At this point, after almost 2 years of testing, if China ever did go OTJ, I really don't know what I'd do with myself!! What did we do with our "free time" before we had sugarcats anyway?....LOL

I'm not brave enough to poke my civvie. He'd shred me. He tries to shred me if he thinks I've petted him too much!

I have only been doing this for 5 months and already I can barely remember the "before the diagnosis" time. After 2 years of this routine you would be totally lost if China went OTJ...(but we will still keep hoping for you)

Our housemate has one like that - he's lovely for a minute or two, then he decides the hand that's petting him is evil and needs to die! :P Of my 2, Regan is the more mellow one - she was really easy to test...she just sat there and let me get it done. If it had been distressing her, I wouldn't have bothered as she didn't NEED to be tested. :)

Yeah, I still keep thinking I've forgotten something because Rosa's not being tested every day anymore. We were away overnight this weekend and I kept worrying whether or not she'd be OK and having to remind myself that all she needs at the moment is food putting out twice a day same as all the others. It becomes such a routine so quickly because it's important that the testing especially is a really difficult habit to get out of!

I plan my time away from home according to Tuxie's test schedule and whether he is having an active cycle. I test and shoot real early in the morning (4AM) and my "internal clock" wakes me up about 10 minutes before 4..no alarm clock needed. I would LOVE to not have to test and shoot but it would take me time to get back to what used to be normal. lol

I'm still not back to normal yet - I still wake up just before 6am when I was doing the whole TFS routine. And the twice I haven't, I've woken up panicking at 7:30 and been out of bed before I've realized I don't actually need to do anything! And yes, even going to buy food from the store was arranged around what was a safe time to leave Rosa the whole time she was on insulin - and a couple of times I didn't go because I wasn't happy with the test I got just before I wanted to leave. I'm sure I will get back to normal eventually, but it's going to take a while!

Very funny!! I did my dry runs on my civie Beni before I tried it on Dusty when he was first diagnosed. Today when I do random tests on Dusty, Beni will sit in and watch. It seems to calm Dusty down when we're all in the bathroom together.
