Last night I gave Sammy the antibiotic at about +1 after he had eaten a significant amount of food between PMPS and +1. He didn't eat much if anything between +1 and +10.5, which I am associating with the antibiotic. So I skipped the antibiotic again this morning and will contact the VET to get her recommendation. He had a fabulous PS last night, but I think since he didn't eat between +1 and +10.5 I think that is why he just rose all night. I am hoping we will see numbers back in the 60's again today. The other different thing about last night was that I gave fluids. I did skip fluids on Saturday night as I didn't want to start another bag before coming home on Sunday.

Other than the nausea from the antibiotic Sammy is doing well. He did have a bit of diarrhea last night, but I am hoping it was just a carry over from the stress of the trip. I will monitor him closely to make sure that he is having solid stool today. I will also mention that to the VET today when I call.

Hope everyone has a fantastic day.

Still waiting to hear back from the vet, but so far today Sammy is doing well. He did eat a bit more around +5 and then again after the +6.5 test. I don't know if I should still hold off on the antibiotic tonight if the Vet doesn't call back. What are the ramifications if you stop an antibiotic mid-treatment?

Is Sammy getting any probiotics while he's on the AB? AB's can ruin the stomach flora and a probiotic may help him feel better. Do you have any Fortiflora?

I do have ForiFlora, but every time I put it on his food he won't eat it. Maybe I should try putting it on before I give the antibiotic. Or maybe spread it out throughout the day.

We just had such a bad experience with punkin developing C Diff after taking clindamycin that after that, I always used some probiotic with him if he had to have an antibiotic. You don't want c diff.

I have no idea what C Diff is, but if you say we don't want it than that is enough info for me. I was able to get Sammy to eat a bit of Fancy Feast with the FortiFlora on it. I mixed the packet with water and then mixed the water with the Fancy Feast. I will try to get that one can into him over the next 24 hours. I don't want him to really eat the Fancy Feast because it is so high in phosphorous, but if that is the only way I can get the probiotic into him that that is what I will do for now. Hopefully the other probiotic that I ordered won't have any flavor or smell and I can mix it with his food and he won't even knot it is there.

It's (let's see if I can spell it!) clostridium difficile. It's a bacteria that lives in the gut, and as long as the rest of the flora and fauna are healthy, it's kept in check. But giving antibiotics can wipe out the good stuff along with the bad, and then the c diff can overgrow. Causing diarrhea. And it's difficult to get rid of.

So no, you don't want it!;)

Got it.

The Vet just called back, and suggested that we discontinue the antibiotic for now. Since it really does seem to be upsetting his stomach and we didn't have a definitive diagnosis for an infection she suggested that we discontinue for now, but if I notice frequent trips to the litter box then she wants to see him for a urinalysis to make a proper diagnosis before changing to a different antibiotic.

So far today, I would say that he only visited the litter box twice during the day, and probably once this evening. So right now that is what we will do. I will still continue the probiotic any way, because that never hurts.

I did try to dissolve the FortiFlora in water and have Sammy drink it, but he just wasn't having it. Crystal on the other hand wanted to drink it right up. LOL! It is always the one that you don't need to worry about that does what you really want the other to do. LOL!

The Vet was a little freaked out that I gave insulin last night when Sammy was at 61 at PS. That didn't freak me out as much as him not eating. LOL!
