NOTE: Readings done on AT2 Pet Meter so they are 30-40% higher than a human meter reading:

The last 4 or 5 days I have been waiting for Tuxie to clear his bounce. However everytime he hits blue numbers (which fir an AT2 meter are decent numbers) he spends the next two or so days bouncing back into high numbers. Should I keep holding and wait for the bounce to clear, decrease the dose or increase the dose?? There doesn't seem to be a definite direction to his ups and downs.

Thanks for any input

He's failed the reduction from 5.25 to 5.0u. Notice how when he hit greens on 4/8, then you reduced his dose. On 4/11 he cleared the bounce and he only got to 112. At that point you could've gone back up to 5.25u. I'd increase now.

Thank you. When I asked on the 12th I was advised to hold for 3 days until he cleared the bounce, so I wasn't sure if he was still bouncing or if it was time for an increase.

I saw that. That applies to the "increasing the dose" phase. It's a bit confusing and it took me a while to figure it out, but a failed reduction means that you don't have to do any waiting to let a cat get used to blue or green numbers. That's only on when you are increasing the dose.

Here's a good explanation of it: New Dose Wonkiness, Failed Reductions and Bouncing

This is a bit confusing. I just did Tuxie's +2hr and he is 389 from a PS of 544. Does that not seem like a fairly big drop in 2 hours considering his nadir is usually around +6?? He seems to come down fine but then bounces back up. My mind is just too fogged (and tired) to be able to make sense of it.

Big drops, anything over around 50 points an hour, can also cause bounces. I don't know how you are feeding Tuxie, but you might want to spread out his meals a bit in the early part of the cycle so he has some carbs on board before onset.

Yes -- that's a big drop. I'd test at +3 to see what's going on.

It's not unusual for kitties to bounce, especially if they haven't spent that much time in lower numbers. A drop into low numbers (e.g., 40s), a big drop like you're seeing tonight, or a fast drop -- also like tonight, can all trigger a bounce. The more time that Tuxie spends in normal numbers, the less he will tend to bounce. Cats will bounce until they don't.

Tuxie gets most of his food during the early part of his cycle. In the late part of his cycle I usually only gives snacks like chicken or salmon. I have been trying to "feed the insulin" so he gets most of his food in portions in the first 6 hours after shot.

I will continue monitoring his numbers. His +3 is 371 so the food I fed him at +2 is keeping him good for now.
