Oren has made a huge amount of progress since he hit this dose. Now if his liver would get with the program we will be good.

Thanks Tina, yes I'm very happy and relieved to finally make some progress. Sorry that Sammy didn't quite get there in his trial, but it sounds like he and you have a great plan for moving ahead and I suspect it won't be long till you're having an OTJ party! Have a wonderful time at your knit camp retreat; glad you're able to take him with you to relieve that bit of stress! Have a great Tuesday :)

so, do i check again in 15 min?, feed again and keep testing in 15 min increments? Guess this is a dose decrease tonight, but .25 or .5? (since he increased in .5 increments) plus i have vacation dose issues starting Thur. anyway!!

18 min later at 53 after gravy and a bit of meat from fancy feast gravy lovers. gave him another teaspoon of the meat w/ gravy on it after this test. will check again in 15-20 min

@Wendy&Neko , @julie & punkin (ga) @Sienne and Gabby, @Tina & Sammy - anyone around to walk me all the way through this? i'm using the Sticky on shooting low numbers and under 50 results. Thank god my boss is very understanding..

keep doing what you are doing.
little spoon of gravy, test every 30 minutes until 2 consecutive rising numbers without food influence.

e.t.a. i'm popping in the shower and will check on you when I get out.

3rd test came in at 65, gave him a scant teaspoon of the FF meat w/ some gravy. will wait 30 min to test since he's had 2 above 50? if next test is also above or rising, do i not feed him ?

it's nicer if you can keep him surfing.... do you need to go back to work asap?
if you can stay, try using his regular low carb instead after the next test if he's still rising.
as long as you need to give gravy ( med carb) , then you aren't at the two rising numbers without food .

30 min later 4th test 87; gave him tsp regular low carb, will test again in 30, but then might have to get back to work. SHould i leave food in auto-feeder just in case?

looks like you've got it....
I see the 87 on you ss.

It looks like Oren usually nadirs earlier in the cycle so hopefully he follows his pattern and starts rising some on his own too.
Yes to leaving food.
you can leave a medium carb... or even a high carb if it makes you feel safer to leave.

I have to leave and go to work for 2 hours. I'll check again when i return.

thank you so much Rhiannon, I'm glad someone was able to be here; i had quite a shock when i came home; almost wasn't able to either!! thank god....

we got a 45 today so that in itself is a dose reduction (@julie & punkin (ga) you are clairvoyant, and called this might happen!); but I also REALLY need vacation dose advise, as I leave on this THUR until following Tue. Vet tech pet sitter only able to do AM/PS shots except possibly on wknd.

the lc after 4th test kept him surfing, but he dropped a bit. 5th test was 66, got another tsp of LC. Might have one more 1/2 hr. interval to stay w/ him but will have to get back to work at some point here!

Come on Oren - up you go! Congrats on the reduction. :D

My suggestion on dose is based on the fact that you are leaving this week for vacation. I would take him down .5U for now. Typically over 5 U we both increase and decrease by .5U, but since Oren is so bouncy and still seeing some ugly numbers, I would have suggested trying .25U reduction in an attempt to keep him greener, if you were going to be home to monitor. However, safety first!

For vacation dose, I'd think about 5U, maybe 4.5U.

thanks Wendy! I am SO frustrated that he's pulling all this right before I have to leave!! He had the whole month of March to get to green, but no! o_O They like to torture us! So am i reading this right; tonight, he'd go to 5.25, through when I leave Thur. am, then Thu. afternoon either 5 or 4.5?

E.T.A - +7.5 test was 78; going to leave him some LC food, run back to work and get my laptop then come home. Too nervous to stay away. Teleworking tomorrow anyway...

Cats always have perfect timing. But you know that Oren knows what green looks like now so he will find it again when you get back.

For tonight, if Oren decides to bounce to the moon by PMPS, you could do what we call shooting through the bounce. That's shooting the old (higher) dose for one more time only, to help him get over the bounce, then go to the new dose tomorrow morning. I think I'd only do that if he gets really high to black. He got over those bounces on the 11th and 12th really quickly.

Ok, got it, except, I'm really thick and want it spelled out:
PMPS tonight is not BLACK, the new dose tonight is 5.25
PMPS IS BLACK, 5.75 tonight, 5.25 tomorrow a.m and tomorrow night

then starting Thur. either 5 or 4.5 begins the vacation dose?

Awesome shooting and awesome catch Megan! You did an amazing job getting Oren to surf for you! I really think we could revamp the movie "That Darn Cat" into a blog or something with all the stuff our cats like to pull....

Enjoy your vacation....I am sure you will get some awesome dosing advice on that....but it may be better to get tomorrow to see what he is doing with his bounce and such....

Yes, if black tonight then 5.75 tonight and 5.25 tomorrow morning. If not black, start 5.25 tonight. He's recovering so fast from his bounces that I don't want an overfull depot to cause problems tomorrow, so close to you leaving.

@Wendy&Neko and everyone, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. just 2 months ago, I could barely get a BG test. All your input, suggestions, hand-holding and teachings have helped me SO much. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Even just a few wks ago this whole situation today would have sent me over the edge, but I felt at least somewhat confident in what to do because of the amazing people here. HUGE shout out and hugs to all who put up w/ incessant questions, worrying and shaky newbies!!:bighug: and Oren thanks you too!!:cat:

Seeing cats (and beans) do so well makes me happy. :):) Having the support of others here makes this journey so much easier. Soon you'll be able to pop into the Feline Health forum and help/support the next generation of newbies. When we tell people it does get easier - you know it does.

not very surprisingly, he bounced to HI at PMPS. so per @Wendy&Neko i gave one last 5.75u shot to 'shoot through the bounce', but will reduce to 5.25u tomorrow a.m. Thankfully i am home to watch him tomorrow.

question is w/ his bounce tonight and the same dose, could he potentially still clear and go low tonight? I am going to dash to store right now and get a few more cans of food and test strips to be fully armed for the upcoming trip. My 2nd petsafe feeder arrived today (Amazon prime is amazing).

I think I'm now having a little PTSD about todays events; strangely calm while handling it and now feel shaky and wiped out!

Great job handling things today, megan! The important thing was you kept your cool when you needed to. Now you can let down and breathe - and shake a little if you need to. ;)

The more you do this the easier and more routine it becomes. What helps is once you KNOW that Oren is going to respond to the carbs, and you are confident that a little gravy will pull him up, you won't get as stressed about it.

Looking at the last few bounces on his ss, it seems that there is about a 12ish hour interval between the end of the green surf and the blue that looks like it's signaling that the bounce may be beginning to clear. Hard to know for certain because so far it's been happening in the middle of the night. So, yes, there is the potential for him to clear it late tonight. No crystal ball there - I'd get a before bed test and if it's blue, that's a heads-up that he's beginning to clear it.

Maybe you did this - the way this new website works we can't see what you had for previous subject lines, but if you didn't: whenever you have a question or need immediate help, put it in your subject line. The tags only help if the people you're tagging see them, and sometimes I've noticed that if one person is tagged, others won't respond who actually could help. They assume you're waiting for the tagged person. There are lots of people with enough experience to answer most every question. We've only had this tagging feature since January. Before that people posted questions in the subject line and got help that way.

I'm glad Rhiannon was around early this morning to help you with the low numbers. FDMB is full of good people.

I like Wendy's dose plan too.

well, I did originally have a 911 and asking for help in the subject line, but then it got too full as I was adding my test results! so once Rhiannon responded I took down the 911 and reworded the help re: the dosage. We need a longer subject line i guess or something!

so tomorrow he gets 5.25, but then on Thur. would I go to 5 or even 4.5 depending on how he does tomorrow? I'm around for the amps shot on Thur, and can even get a +3 probably before leaving...

That's fine - like I said I can't see what earlier subject lines looked like. I just didn't want to think you were looking for help and no one realized it. On our previous site the subject line appeared at the top of every response in a thread, so it was easy to see what was current at the time the person posted. It's not a problem to tag people, i just always worry someone won't answer because another person was tagged.

I think deciding on the vacation dose tomorrow after the nadir would be a good plan.

i don't think he's clearing this bounce tonight, but if I can make it, I might try for a +6... maybe it would be smarter to skip that and wake up earlier for a +10?
