Good morning!

Sure wish we could just skip Mondays and go straight to Tuesdays.

Zoey was flat all day yesterday in yellows. Hopefully today will give us some of those more soothing colors to look at on the ss. Going to call the vet today about the petechiae. It's much better but it did that last week ... looked like it was improving the first of the week and then pow! angry patch on her belly again.

Happy healing vines to all.

Yesterday

I've spent the last hour reading posts from the "where can I find information sticky." So much information, so little time.

Question on decreasing the dose: Besides the reduction for dropping too low, is there a reduction earned for 7 days with nadir BGs <100? And if they bounce (like Zoe has done yesterday) and you don't get a BG <100, you start the count over?

And what does ETA mean?

Yes, it IS a ton and a half of info!!

This is from the TR Protocol sticky....the last line of this answer your question about reductions:

Reducing the dose:
  • If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit. See additional notes in the next paragraph about drops into the 20s and 30s. Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further.
"ETA" means "Edited To Add".

I hope you can get some relief for Zoey's petechiae!

Thanks, @Amy&TrixieCat -- that last sentence is what sent me on the quest to find "normal." There are so many different definitions of normal out there and my vet's definition of accepted normal is probably the highest. I hate to be slow, but is normal a single BG (or a mjaority of BGs) below 100 for each cycle? is it below 200?

I'm not looking to decrease Zoey's dose right now, but I don't want to miss an opportunity if it's there and run the risk of her depots building more than they should be.

ETA: Here's a list of some of the normals I've found:
My vet: 100 - 300
Vetinfo.com: 80 - 120
petdiabetes.wiki: 100 - 180
Feline Diabetes/dummies: 70 - 120 for undiagnosed; 100 - 200 dx'd.

I *think* the protocol for decreasing without a drop below 50 is if the cat is entirely between 50-120 for 7 days. I think it allows for an outlying test here and there within meter variance, but all tests should be in that healthy range. Hope that helps!

Sending healing vines for Zoey's belly! Are you still using coconut oil and wrapping it?

As far as I know Patricia's right and it's between 50-120 for 7 days. I think the preference is for most numbers to be under 100 so the ss looks more green than blue. Looks as though Zoey's heading in the right direction today - pink to yellow to blue - how about sneaking a green number in there too Zoey as an extra bonus color?

Now I can show Zoey what you said and maybe she'll pay attention when I tell her she needs to swim a little harder and longer when she's in the lagoon. :) Thank you bunches @Patricia & Noodle and @manxcat419.

Yes, I am still putting coconut oil on her belly (it's looking REALLY good today) and instead of wrapping it, I made her a couple of little tutus out of tee shirt sleeves so it's protected but not binding or restrictive. We've also been icing it. When her daddy (dh) sits in the chair on his icepack, she has her own icepack and crawls up on his stomach and lays on it. Sweetest thing ever to see the two of them together. <3 He can usually coax her into staying there for 20 minutes or so at a time, a couple of times a day.

I hope you realize we are going to need some pictures of this. How adorable!!!!

I haven't had a computer to post until now. I shot Zoe about an hour ago and I will get a new check @ +2 (in an hour). I've fed her 1 ounce of food (two of her allotted six servings) to make sure she has a good bump on the front end of the insulin. She was dropping at the time of shot but not as low as our pmps two evenings ago. I had to make a decision and I heard ... shooooooooooooott! (I hope that voice that I listened to wasn't being foolish....)

@Patricia & Noodle I said tutu, but I meant muumuu. Old ladies like Zoey can't pull off tutus. LOL Here she is in her muumuu on her icepack with her comfy dad. <3

Sorry, don't know why it posted so many of the same picture. Only four are attached so I couldn't delete the extras. ??

PMPS 155 (1 ounce)
+2 160 (.5 ounce)
+3 will feed .5 ounce
+4 Plan to test again and check back in. (9:30 ET)

oh, that is absolutely adorable! Punkin slept like that on our chests too. Some cats are lap cats and some are chest cats. We used to joke that he put out sleep molecules when he purred (and he purred all the time). He'd be sleeping on us, purring, and pretty soon whoever was holding him was out cold. hahahaha

those pictures are just priceless.

You're doing great and she looks good tonight!

PMPS 155 (1 ounce)
+2 160 (.5 ounce)
+3 (.5 ounce)
ETA: +4 155 (.5 ounce)
+5 will check and either feed or hold until +6 depending on the number. (Checking because she's dropping and this time slot is a bigger drop during the day. checking more to be safe)

Yes, Zoey is a character. Since she's been sick she's been a different cat and now she's just spoiled. The pictures were taken after her Epsom Salt sponge bath ... (smh - yes, I know that I'm not helping to prove those people wrong who say I've turned into a crazy cat lady. LOL (that's a maniacal laugh)

And @julie & punkin (ga) , my husband would agree with you about the sleep molecules brought on by cats purring and napping. I find him asleep in his chair often and he says -- insert one of the five cats here -- jumped up on him and fell asleep and he just didn't have the heart to wake them up. (Sometimes I don't either.)

Thank you all for looking in on us and Zoey sends her love and thanks for the adoration you've given her. :cat:

Be back with an update in an hour. Maybe we'll have a better idea of where this is going tonight.

You're only needing to catch her if she goes below 50 - so if you're WANTING to get these tests, go for it. but if you don't, i think she's doing fine and isn't very likely at all to head below 50 tonight. She's essentially flat and is surfing along. If you're tired, I'd go to bed without worrying. leave extra food if you want, but she looks ok to me.

Music to my ears, @julie & punkin (ga)! I've loaded her new 5-compartment feeder with two 1/2 servings and feeding at +6 and +10. She hasn't moved, still at 166 and under 50 is a long ways away so hopefully we will start closer to the goal posts in the a.m. than we did this morning.

Goodnight all!
