Civie weight loss after switching to all wet?

My civie Goobie was quite the butterball when Bud was diagnosed. At that time, all my cats were free fed dry food and Goobie was quite the scarfer and barfer. I switched to all wet food in September and Goobie has slimmed down quite a bit since then. He looks so much healthier, but of course after having gone through the weight loss with Bud that prompted me to take Bud to the vet, I can't help but wonder if it's just simply the change in food that's caused the weight loss. Goobie has no symptoms that would make me think he is sick and of course Bud had other symptoms besides the weight loss. And yes, I checked his BG and he came in at a nice 50. :) so, I'm just wondering if anyone else's cat has experienced weight loss after switching to all wet?

Oh and he might have been fed a lot of crap treats before too and is now only getting freeze dried chicken... ;)

A couple of my heavy civvies lost weight when I switched all of them to the same low carb food. The water content effectively dilutes the calories while providing volume.

Sounds like a good thing! :)

Oh it's a great thing! My husband laughs at me because I want to take him to the vet. His symptoms? He's healthier..... LOL it's just the weight loss made me nervous since that's really what prompted me to take Bud to the vet. But Goobie is not underweight... He just weighs less... Lol

What low carb food are you talking about? I'm desperate and friskies isn't liked here anymore. A few of my cats don't eat much of FF either. :(

Unfortunately I feed Friskies and Fancy Feast. If I was looking to switch though, and money wasn't a factor as I have 6 cats, I would want to try Paw Lickin Chicken from Weruva as I hear it has a gravy but is only 3% carbs.

Wellness Turkey and Giblet worked well in raising the trio from my vet. I had to switch to Friskies Turkey and Giblet due to budget. I get the 5.5 ounce cans now as the cats seem to like that better than the 13 ounce cans.

My civie Olive has also lost some weight since Henry's diagnosis last November and the subsequent diet change for them both. She was never heavy but definitely has a trimmer waist and more muscle definition now (still needs a tummy tuck though :)). She just had her annual checkup and got a clean bill of health! I think it's normal.

Happy for your cat having good numbers. Just wish my Pooper's would get numbers like that instead of the 300-400s and even 500s. :(

I wish that for you and Poopers too. I know how frustrated you've been and am sorry it hasn't been easier. :( We were just lucky--caught it early and Henry responded quickly. He is also not picky at all about what he eats (and we still struggle with *his* weight; he's down from 15.6 to 14.8 lbs but has another couple to lose). Olive, the nondiabetic, is the finicky one. She will scarf something down one day and refuse it the next. She does seem to like the Fancy Feast Classics Chicken Feast the best; have you tried that one (pink can)? They're often out of it at the grocery store, so I wonder if that's the best seller. Crumbling a freeze-dried chicken treat over her food helps for the flavors she's less enthusiastic about; that might be worth a shot with Poopers.

Yeah I've tried all those kind. I try to avoid any fish products due to potential problems. I wish I had cats that ate anything and they probably would if I put down bad dry food and treats. They scarf down the friskies cat treats and I can see why. Probably taste like sugar to them with all the carbs and I only give them a few pieces. For some reason things just have to be hard and I have to find a way to get through it and pray for the best in that despite him being full diabetic that I can still get him to eat this YA food and start losing weight and getting regulated.
