I have been anxiously waiting to see how Milo is this morning.

You know I don't really give dosing advice, but I wanted to share my insights with you and you can do with them what you will.

So you had a fur shot on the morning of 3/28 and you got higher numbers, but then on 3/30 Milo got down into the low 100's and possibly under 100, which I believe caused the bounce that you were seeing on 3/31. Tonight's dose will be 6 cycle since the bounce. So my thought is if you don't see green by tonight then I would increase tomorrow morning. And I would try to get a couple extra test during the day today at +4, +6 and +8 if possible and the same tonight as well.

Hopefully that green will show up!

This was first chance I had to test today. I was very surprised at higher number.

Concern is this AM shot. It was not a fur shot, but for first time ever I drew blood and Milo flinched. What could have caused this, and could this affect absorption of insulin.

Could it be possible that you went too deep and into some muscle. I don't think the insulin will absorb correctly if you inject into muscle. I think this would also mean that the cycle starts over again, like you would do for a fur shot, but I am not 100% sure.

Tina with the way he acted I think I did something wrong. I felt so bad when I saw the blood on his white fur. I didn't think I was too deep, I've been being so careful since my fur shot, but I know something wasn't right.

Guess I'll see PMPS and then I'll know for sure. These past 2 weeks have frustrated me beyond belief. I can't let it get to me and need to put behind.

You may have also just hit a capillary ....I've occasionally gotten a tiny drip of blood after China's shot too. I think since she's plain white, it shows up more and looks like it's worse than it is

Does that mean cycle starts over? Does that affect absorption?

Since he keeps rising do I need to restart counting 6 cycles at 5U. OR can I go to 5. 25U. SHOT IN 2.5 HOURS

No you don't need to start counting over

Yes, I think you're good to go up....but usually once they're getting 5 units or more, we will suggest increases in .5 unit increments, so unless there are other opinions before shot time, I'd go up to 5.5U

When we're giving smaller doses, (like 1 unit) a .25 increase is a 25% increase...when you're up at 5 units, even going to 5.5 is only a 10% increase

Opened my vial mid January, but I have one pen a nice OTJ member sent me. My vial has bubbles in it. Should I start using the pen or is my vial ok. Just want to make sure insulin still good.

A vial should always have air, put if it has bubbles, that might be some sort of floatie then it might have gone bad. Only you can see, unless you post a photo. Pens should not have air, but I have learned that a bubble or two are not the end of the world.

Everything I'm seeing says that if you inject into muscle, the absorption rate is faster. If Milo is rising, then I don't think you injected into the muscle.

Come on Milo, I'm rooting for you! Give momma bean some good numbers already!

This is interesting, I didn't know that. So I wonder if Milo in fact went lower and quick and the higher numbers are a bounce.

Well just so I could monitor better I held the dose until tomorrow AM earliest.

Shot went smoothly. No flinch, blood or fur shot. I plan on testing every 3 hours tonight to get idea of where he is.

I'd increase tomorrow, to 5.5 as Chris suggested. Think of increases as being around 10% of the dose. At 5U, a .25U increase is like a fat or skinny on a 2.5U dose. At this point when Neko was above 5u, I only increased by .25U if I.I was tweaking a lot of green.

Good plan to monitor tonight, sometimes cats go high before they go low. Work it Milo!

In response to your PM...

If you gave an intramuscular (IM) injection, the insulin would absorb faster than usual. Looking at Milo's ss, it's a possibility, but I'm not-so-sure it's a probability. There's just not any data to confirm or deny. Chances are you simply nicked a capillary when you gave the shot.

The rise at the end of this cycle looks suspicious as far as being an IM injection, but the rise could also be chalked up to a bounce (from spending so much time in blues last night and possibly for awhile this morning) OR as Wendy mentioned, a high before a break.

In any case, I wouldn't spend any time dwelling on it. IMO, Milo is stuck and simply needs more juice to get things going again. Unless anything unusual happens between now and tomorrow morning, I would go ahead with an increase to 5.5 units BID as Chris and Wendy have suggested.

Just my thoughts...
