How to you all get rid of your old needles? I cant throw them in trash here and drug store wont take them, vet will take them for a fee of course lol.

BD has a needle clipper. It's a cheap (less than $5), small device that clips off the needle of insulin syringes. The needle part is stored in the device. You can then throw out the plastic part of the syringe (you can't use it on lancets, though). You can get them at most pharmacies or on line.

"The BD Safe-Clip™ Needle Clipping & Storage Device removes insulin syringe needles and pen needles safely and easily.
This portable device holds up to 1,500 clipped needles, approximately a 2-year supply.
The BD Safe-Clip™ Device makes the syringe unusable by clipping off the needle.
After the device clips the needle from the syringe the needle is automatically and safely retained within the clipper. Do not clip if this is not your own syringe."

Check with your local sanitation department. Some places will allow you to dispose them in the trash if they are in a secure container. If so, one option is to put the used syringes in either an empty coffee can or laundry detergent bottle. When it is full, you dispose of the container in the trash.

You could go to the hardware store and buy side cutters and clip off the needle, you should be able to get a decent pair for about $3. Clip the needle and then put it inside the syringe. You can also do the lancet this way.

I drop mine off at the local fire Department. They give me an empty sharps container in exchange for the full one. I live in Fl. so not sure if this is state by state or not.

Try looking up hazardous waste drop off in your local directory (along the lines of old fuel canisters, propane tanks, bear spray, etc.). The fire departments often accept this type of refuse as a public safety thing, and I expect that most would accept the needles (in an appropriate container), as Laura said. If your community has an approved waste drop off site, it will hopefully be non-charge.
