I'm not very good at telling if it's a failed reduction or just bouncing, but that time frame sounds right. I hope Noodle comes back down today.

There isn't a set number of cycles to wait before calling a failed reduction. I'm not always good at figuring it out either but in your case I think this is still a bounce. Let's see what the experts say and good luck.

Thanks for visiting Marilyn, Carla, and Elise! The nice thing about her still bouncing (and marathon training being over) is being able to go btb until +4! How luxurious :coffee:! Seems like she's coming down now. *anti jinx*

Looking at her previous bounces, it looks like she might well still be bouncing - some of the earlier ones look as though they've taken the full 6 cycles to clear. I'm no expert, but I'd be inclined to wait it out one more day and see if she comes back down on her own.

And I agree, getting btb until +4 is great :D I can usually do it with Rosa on the days she's over 150 AMPS - I always feel way better after a bit more sleep!!

Sending some more anti jinx Noodle's way and hoping she keeps sliding back down for you...gently though please Noodle - no diving!!

Tonight, I'm feeding her mini-meals. I wondered if feeding her smaller amounts would help her get all her food in over the course of the night. She usually gets 3oz at PMPS, then 1.5oz at +5-6. So, I gave 1.5oz at PMPS, then one 3oz can split into hourly feedings from +1-5. So far, she's got her CPC membership for PMPS, +1, and +2! Smaller meals may be more manageable for her with whatever she's dealing with, be it nausea and/or dental issues, plus it may help her surf instead of dive like her LL friends keep telling her. ;)

@manxcat419 I feel like a whole new woman! I felt like I just haven't gotten enough real rest since last weekend, it was just what the doctor ordered. DBF is out of town, so I've spent the day reading, cleaning up, and took a nice walk this afternoon to the grocery store. Another dose of sleep tonight and I just might feel ready to conquer next week!

You definitely do not need to wait 6 cycles before calling something a failed reduction. You want to wait until her bounce clears and see where it lands her. If she's not back in green, then you can increase. Here is the relevant bit from the TR protocol sticky:

If an attempted reduction fails, go right back up to the last good dose as soon as you see kitty's numbers trending upwards. You don't have to hold the reduced dose for a certain number of cycles before taking the dose right back up. The guidelines listed under the topic "Increasing the dose" do not apply to a failed reduction.

That said, I think she's still bouncing and that can take 6 cycles to resolve. Looks like she might be wanting to break the bounce tonight?

Threat is definitely on the table! I'll get a later test to see if she's started to come down. She's eating her +3 meal now (without any tempting yummies on top!) and wasn't even scared of the feeder when it turned (I'll admit it still startles me).

It's a hard call because she's stayed relatively high and flat, which may be a bounce... I could see what she does the rest of tonight, cycle 5 on .75u, then dosecrease in the AM since I'll have all day to monitor. OR give it that last cycle just for patience's sake and at least then dosecrease cycle 3 would be a PM cycle on Monday.

Sounds like my ideal day! A book, a bit of cleaning up and a walk. The only thing I'd add is a huge mug of either tea or coffee. I'm glad you had a good day - it really helps sometimes to get just one day where you don't have to run around after anyone else or worry much about anything. :D I'm planning something similar for the first day after I finish work next week that Rosa's numbers allow it - I feel as though I haven't got anything even close to a full night's sleep in weeks!

I also had a full french press all to myself ;):coffee::coffee::coffee:

The smaller meals seem to have gone quite well tonight! I had to bring her to the room to show her when food was coming, but she's eaten all but part of the last serving. She discovered the giant purple blanket on the couch and made herself a cozy little nest. King size blanket for a 9 lb cat, I got the stink eye for daring to move and disturb her.

It just doesn't get any better than that sort of day! :D

She looks so happy and so cute in that blanket. All our cats here make nests (usually on our bed of course) but none of them have the technique down quite as well as that!! ;)

The mini meals definitely work for Rosa - she free feeds, but hardly ever eats more than a few bites at a time. It does seem to help her to stay level though so I haven't bothered trying to get her onto more set meal times. It would be really difficult for us anyway with 5 other cats, who all want to eat on their own schedule, so I was really happy that it seemed to work for her - fingers crossed Noodle is the same.

Since AMPS is pretty early & quiet on the board, what do more experienced eyes think re: this being a failed reduction? Give it a 6th cycle at .75u or back to 1u tomorrow morning?

FWIW I'll be starting a new lantus pen at PMPS tomorrow. I don't know if that affects the decision.

Patricia, I am NOT a dosing expert. Just had to get that disclaimer up front. :joyful: Any chance you got a fur shot tonight? It seemed like she was breaking the bounce today, and now she's headed up again. If you think you got a fur shot, the count starts over. :banghead: If you're sure you didn't, I personally would probably take the dose back up, but again, I am NOT an advice giver! You know Noodle best, so if no one smarter comes along to give you better advice, go with your gut feeling.

I don't think so, no lantus smell... but I had a lot of trouble drawing insulin from the pen. I have what I thought was plenty left for the next few days, but an air bubble in there made getting enough in the syringe terribly hard. Maybe I fudged it? I fine tune the dose with drops, so I know there was insulin in the syringe, but maybe it was affected... so many variables! I couldn't get the new pen in time for AMPS tomorrow, but will have it for PM.

If you think you got all the insulin in tonight, and you don't see her come down before AMPS, I'd consider increasing.
