So! The crazy weekend is finally over (race was FANTASTIC!). I'm back to normal shooting tomorrow. Trouble is, I'm not sure what her dose should be. She earned a reduction from 1.5 to 1.25 on Thursday AM. I gave a skinny 1.5 to the bounce Thurs PM. 1.25U Friday AM, then the planned 1u petsitter dose Friday PM -- when she dropped to 35. She got .5u most of the weekend ("fur shot" Sat PM). I just don't know what to give tomorrow. I feel as if I should respect the 35 she threw me and reduce further, but to what? She gave me that on a temporary reduced dose! Advice?

If I remember the protocol correctly, anything in the 30s is an auto reduction of at least .25....I am sure someone else will be along shortly who can confirm or correct me :)

Glad the weekend went well and you are home safe and sound!

Yes, the 30's call for a .25 reduction and so does anything under 50 for a newbie under one year.

True on the 30's . . . except the question is what dose was it that caused the 30's? You'd had a 1.5u for many cycles, then the skinny 1.5u after the 40's, (which had caused a bounce). The 30's were where she landed when she cleared that bounce. Any time you reduce a dose that previously larger dose can still be influencing the blood sugar from the depot of the larger dose, for as many as 6 more cycles after a reduction. So even though you went to skinny 1.5, then 1.25u, then 1.0u - they were all one cycle each immediately after the 1.5u.

Does that make sense?

My point is that the 1.5u could still have caused the 30's. At a minimum, the 1.25u could have - although she wasn't on it long enough for the depot to stabilize at 1.25u.

I think if she were mine, I would go back to 1.25u. By now all the larger doses' depots would likely have drained between the furshot and the following 3 shots at 0.5u.

Whatever you decide to do you'll want to monitor just in case she has a quick response. But i suspect it's more likely that it will take a few cycles for the new larger dose's depot to build back up and stabilize - and then you'll see what it can do.

But that's just my 2 cents worth - let's see if anyone else weighs in.

I like Julie's logic. The 1.5U depot was still influencing things when Noodle got into the 30's. Teh 1.25U sounds good. If for some reason you can't monitor much, I'd try 1.0U, but you'll likely have to to go back up.

Congrats on the race - it was great that mom could cover (and get a test :)) while you were gone.

Many congratulations to grandmabean :)

And to you for your race :)

I'm with Julie and Wendy and think 1.25 is a good place to start in the circumstances.
