Toby is starting in the green this morning. A little to low for me to shoot right now. Will wait 30 min.
and test again to see if he is coming up on still going down. Guess he has changed the game a little. In stead of going down at +3 of the cycle he in going down at the end.

If you haven't shot, it's an AMBG instead of an AMPS. People can see at a glance then that you haven't shot and people that know about high dose kitties and levemir may come along to advise.

Very nice though :D go Toby

Waited 30 Min. gave some HC and shot the 18 units. Don't know if I did the right thing will keep monitoring to keep him safe.

Ordinarily, you don't want to give HC at shot time but I really understand. I'd definitely get a test in 30 min. It looks like Toby's numbers may be moving lower so I'd encourage you to monitor closely this morning.

Just an FYI -- your AMPS is the 69 since that's the number you shot. Your PM test could either be at your usual time or you can walk the time back over 2 cycles in 15 min. increments.

Thanks Sienne, For getting back to me with advice. Sorry about the HC but wanted to make sure he would rise after his shot. Thanks again, Peg and Toby

Toby is getting in the low numbers just got a 45. Gave some HC and Karo to try and bring him up. Don't think I should of gave him his full shot today. Will keep Monitoring him.

We are getting up in numbers that I am more comfortable with. Really didn't like the 45.
He has been a while without food and his bg has come up. I will keep monitoring to make sure he is safe.

I have a question. This is the second time Toby has been in the 40's on this dose. Does it mean if he gets in the 40's again that we reduce?

I think If he comes up for PS that I should give a reduced dose. Been giving LC and HC all
day trying to keep him up.

Been giving LC and HC all day trying to keep him up.

That's your signal that the dose is too high. If a cat drops to 48 and one bite of LC brings them back up over 50, then it's possible (depending on the situation) that the dose doesn't need to be reduced. But when you're feeding for hours to try to hold up the numbers, that's a clear signal to decrease the dose.

You know my strategy - follow a run of low numbers like this with one 1/2 shot and return to a "new" reduced dose with the subsequent shot. So if i were in your shoes, I'd give 9u tonight to interrupt the low numbers and let the depot drain a little, then return with a 10% reduced dose in the morning, so about 16.5 or 16u would be the next dose.

Congratulations on toby's dose reduction! His ss has turned into a sea of blue and green and is quite beautiful!

by the way, if you want to increase the carb content, you can always add honey or karo to his gravy. It can work well to alternate the gravy/hc with an ounce or so of the meat from the cat food - the carbs will bring him up & the meat will help sustain the rise.

His legs were weak today he was walking off sideways at times. He seems to have one weak back leg anyways ordered some Zobaline today going to give it a try. I think his legs got weak today because he got so low.

i haven't heard of that happening from lower numbers, but i suppose it's possible. He's really just been in normal numbers today, so there's no risk of hypo symptoms.

In any case, Zobaline helps many cats with neuropathy - i hope it strengthens Toby's back legs. It can take a while to show effect.

Toby was pretty relentless today. I agree with Julie that it's time for that reduction - congratulations. :D Good boy during the day cycle! Even though he's a longer term diabetic, I'm always more cautious with high dose cats - it's so easy for the depot to get ahead of you. Doing a reduced shot as Julie suggested is a good idea. If you find that 1/2 dose is too much this time, then next time you can try 2/3 dose. It does depend on what works for the cat so you will have to experiment.

Disorientation, poor coordination or staggering are signs of hypo. The other thing that can cause weakness in the legs is arthritis. Neko has one hind leg that is worse than the other. Next vet visit you might want to discuss the weak leg with Toby's vet. Fish oil and glucosamine are good additives to help with that.

For the spreadsheet, you are missing the dose in the units column. An alternate way to show the delay today is to put things in the AMPS column, such as 66; 69@12.5. That shows us you stalled 1/2 hour before shooting.

Good job today Peg - I hope he gives you a break the rest of today and tonight.

Excellent advice from everyone. Sure hope Toby settles down...well, maybe not "down" but settles.

Such a good bean, Peg.

Vines for the leg issues.

Toby's legs seem a lot stronger tonight. He isn't walking sideways anymore. He has one leg that always seemed weaker than the other. When his bg isn't way down you hardly notice it he can jump on the bed and chairs but when he got in the 40's today he was walking right off sideways. Ordered some Zobaline to try. Wendy said fish oil and glucosamine might help. Will give 9 units tonight. Thanks everyone for your help. Peg and Toby

Guess we are going to see a bounce tonight. Maybe we will be able to sleep. Only gave 9 units tonight so he probably will be high in the morning. Will still check some tonight.
