So, failing miserably at the only testing at the normal pre-shot times part of this trial, but with Tonka having been highest mid-cycle the last week or so, and being over 90 at pre-shot times, I want to make sure that he isn't creeping out of the normal range mid-cycle. So far, so good. He does seem to come down after eating, and it's probably just running out of post-feeding insulin that's making him creep up a touch by the next shot time, eh?

His grazing does seem to spread out across most of the day, but he definitely eats the most when the meal is first put out (maybe about half of his food at that point). Hopefully his grazing nature will keep him from going too high by the end of cycle too often, because with Tonka's destructive nature, I don't put much hope in a timed feeder lasting long with him. Maybe putting out the foodsickles instead of part of his normal meal, to encourage him to leave more of his food for later in the day?

When a kitty is as close to an OTJ trial as Tonka was last week and we see higher numbers mid cycle, we call it an inverted curve. Inverted curves can be the result of too much or too little insulin but in this case, it was likely too much and he was ready to start his trial.

As long as his AMBG and PMBG are green, I wouldn't worry about testing ...I'd just follow the OTJ trial instructions. He's looking good.

Go Tonka!

Happy Day 2. Go Tonka! :D:D

Congratulations on Trial Day 2!!!! This is awesome!!!!! :D :D

Tonka seems to be doing what Blackie did.... Not really as interested in food as before, but she'll still eat just the same, and takes her time at it. Keep up the excellent work!!!! Only 12 more days to go. :D This IS exciting! :D

Most days he's still quite interested in food - he just gbbles up about half at first and then grazes throughout the rest of the day/night. It would be easier to depend on his grazing to get him through the day if he'd do so consistently. Last night he gobbled up all of his and a good portion of Teeger's food within the first two hours though, and woke me up an hour before I had planned to do his test and feeding, demanding more food (strange that Teeger does not demand to be fed more, but he's always been a fairly patient cat). I was curious how Tonka's sugars would be after close to 9 hours without food, and his levels were actually still down. If that continues, that will be a huge relief, because my cat sitter can't really come at exact 12 hour intervals (she usually tries to get here at the beginning and end of her work day, at approximately 7:30 am and 5:30 pm) when I'm away, so he's likely to get his meals closer together during the day and farther apart overnight. Night tends to be when he spaces out his eating more though - most days (not last night) - so on a typical day, it might not make much difference to him as long as the insulin shots stay out of the picture.

Worst case scenario, I guess we invest in a few automatic timers so that there is one functional unit for each cat, try to set them to go off at exactly the same time, and hope that the newer ones are tougher than the last one that Tonka broke. I was able to fix it (just some misaligned connectors in the wiring - this was an older, simpler model than the ones with the digital timers that are out now), but it's an easy break and could happen repeatedly if he keeps bouncing it around trying to get into it
