Tonka is playing! He finally found enough energy, after months, to start batting things around and trying to chase today (after spending the first 8 hours of his post-shot day looking tired and lethargic, thanks to his high readings this morning, no doubt). It's so good to see the little trouble maker back to himself at last.

He's still wobbly, but we started the MethylCobalamin last week so hopefully that and his very slowly stabilizing blood sugars will give him some strength back in his hind legs again before too long.

I'm hoping against hope that I will finally get him to start a preshot at a lower number on a day that I can be there to watch him on his current dose so that I can see where he winds up without me providing extra food out of nervousness. I'd settle for an all nighter if necessary, but he seems to like to start his healthy level days out in the morning rather than the evening... and inevitably a work day morning.

Yay for Tonka! I'm so pleased for you both. :D

It's so important to celebrate moments like these. It's why we do all we do to tackle the diabetes - to make our little ones feel well and happy. :)

Rooting for Tonka to respond well and quickly to the B12.

:joyful::joyful::joyful: Yeah Tonka!!!

It is great when we see our cats feeling spunky. One of my cats, Mischief just turned 14 and last week was having so much fun playing with a straw that was on the floor. I don't even remember when the last time she behaved like that. It was great to watch.

Keep it up Tonka...

Just got my hope: Tonka's starting out today at 3.7 (67) - and this was an hour late, since I slept in . Just fed him part of his morning food and am stalling on his injection until I get some feedback from the Lantus and Levimir board, where I just posted.

Fingers and paws crossed for Tonka in the Shire.

It would be great if you could post a short update on this thread, because I'd like to hear how things go and I can't cope with the volume of traffic on the Lantus and Levemir board (it makes me feel very overwhelmed and panicky).

No response on the Lantus board yet.

I didn't want to wait much longer if I was going to inject him, so I tested him at 1/2 hour after his first breakfast and he was up to 92 on the US scale, so I gave him the rest of his meal in the form of a higher carb wet food and injected him with 2.0 units Lantus (down 0.25 units from the dose he's been at the last week: he was dropping to the greens (and potentially below 50) levels in between rebounds that I kept interfering with by giving him higher carb food, so the reduction shouldn't hurt him. Guess I'll keep testing him for the next few hours and see what happens.

Hoping everything goes OK. Whereas I used the dosing schedule in the published Tight Regulation Protocol study, I had to tailor Saoirse's treatment to suit our individual circumstances so I'd be of no help to you re what to do with low PS numbers, even if I had more experience.

Moral support is just as important :)
Lantus board folks are referring me to the "how to shoot low numbers" sticky, so I guess it looks like it's just an experiment today, since he was evidently coming down from a rebound and therefore is in the "treat conservatively" category, which is basically what I did.
At +1.5 he's still in the healthy range, though on the lower side than he ought to be after eating his breakfast (3.6 mmol or 65 mg) so I'll keep watching him.

That's what I'd do. I found the time treating Saoirse when her numbers got lower very stressful. I ended up giving her once-a-day doses of Lantus because my own health problems precluded me being guaranteed to be able to monitor her during the nights (and also I was terrified). Saoirse has a natural tendency to run lower at night, so I took advantage of that. We still got to OTJ using daytime SID dosing, thankfully. :)

4.1 (74) at +4, so if he's not rising fast, at least it looks like he's not falling. I'm waiting to see what his +5 test is before I stop waking him up from his snooze for hourly tests. Julie is helping me on the Lantus board right now, and figures that it looks like he'll be just fine if I leave him some extra food if I have to run out, so unless he starts dropping again, that is the plan. He might finally have hit some normal numbers.

Thanks for the update, Jordi. :) I'm glad you've got support on your L&L thread now.

I know what you mean about having to pester our poor little treasures to keep them safe. I remember times when Saoirse was running quite low. I'd be in such a state that if I were inclined to bite my fingernails they'd have been down to the quick but she was just blithely napping. Guess that's critter motherhood for ya. ;) It was all worth it, mind, to see my girl feeling so much better.

Definitely. I just got back, finding Tonka at 9.1 (166) at +9 , and in his "kitty crazy" state. Something I haven't seen in a long while (poor old Teeger was getting used to not having to watch his back all the time, so it's time for Tonka to put the run on him again and get him moving too :) )

If this is just the natural end of cycle rise, I might finally get a chance to see him through at this dose to see where he winds up when fed as usual. Here's hoping he really doesn't drop as much from lower levels the way everyone says should happen, and then I can breathe a little easier injecting him when he's not already high.

... Tonka ... in his "kitty crazy" state ...

Ah! Sounds like what I refer to as a 'happy half-hour'. It is great to see all the little improvements as they get better, isn't it! :D

If it helps, Saoirse's numbers flattened out a lot as she moved into the tightly-regulated range. Like you, I was worried about her dropping too low when I first started dosing her in the lower ranges. That's where the data gathered in the spreadsheets helps so much. It gives a lot of reassurance to have a record of how the dose affects them in a particular range.

I'm so glad Tonka has had a good day. Thank you, Jordi, for taking a little time to share it with me. :)

This process can be very lonely and tough going at times. I'm glad I was able to help you a little today. :)

Sending some scritches for Tonka.

ETA:

... and a hug for you! :bighug:
