Answers to many questions are in last Caturday's condo

WCR: She seems to be sleeping a lot, but still purry.

Appy is off somewhat - last Sunday's mirtz was the last quarter of that pill; first cut on Feb. 7, think maybe been exposed too long to air? Who knows. The three quarters prior to that perked her appy up quite a bit, but not this time. Or possibly something's going on with Friskies - there's a thread on Health questioning if it's changed. DH hasn't been doing a really good job handfeeding her at night and I've been going to bed really early, so she's only averaging 98 food calories daily this week, and not that many treats too I think. This compares to 110-120 food cal daily in the first two weeks of Feb. We're down to our last pill and dropped off a new rx for mirtz at Costco today, will pick up Monday. But I'm sort of afraid to give it to her b/c it may make her want to eat more, and we don't know if there's anything wrong with the Friskies that we have, and she won't eat anything else that I've tried to offer.

I hadn't realized how much her calorie intake has dropped till I sat down to calculate it tonight. I'll have to try to remember to do a weight check tomorrow morning before SQuids, but the last visit to the hospital, she'd gained 1/2 lb. (good, but not-so-good for her arthritis; is something we're trying to balance, but isn't easy)

BGs haven't been impressive, but is least of my concern. Have wondered though if she's needing more SQuids - have noticed a couple of times that when we give SQuids late, BGs don't budge till SQuid onset. Maybe dehydration is messing with insulin onset? Gums don't seem tacky, but am thinking of raising her SQuid amt after b/w on Tuesday.

B/w next Tuesday - am bracing for a deterioration in renal values, although am hoping my hunch is wrong. Aside from sleeping a lot and the MIA appy, her behaviour doesn't seem to suggest anything's terribly wrong. She's purry when I wake with her in the morning, and I've seen her nuzzle her lemon a few times. And she can be feisty too - she bit me last night when I tried to comb out a mattie with a mat breaker  She could just be slowing down, or maybe it's the winter blues. I can tell she's thinking of her stroller when I carry her to the glass door and let her look out. I want spring to get here so badly - I think getting out would do her some good, and hopefully perk her up.

eta: she just asked to climb into my lap again. that's the second time today :thumbup

Lucy has some extra weight to spare, if Meowzi needs to gain some. I'm not sure how to ship that, though. Never mind.

What Friskies are you feeding? I feed turkey & giblets sometimes, and they're still eating it fine.

I hope Spring comes soon so you and Meowzi can get outside. You can move to SC, it's nice here!

WCR sounds pretty good, never worry about B/W until you have to.
Lemon-nuzzling and feisty-biting are ideal Meowzi behaviors.

I read that thread over on health too....::sigh:: Was not happy to read about Friskies turkey and giblets, it was my backu-up canned food. I found a store that had left-over, old-label FFs, and I bought everyone on the shelf, I'm going back tomorrow to see if they have any left.

Glad to hear the pretty good cat report :)

I hope the bloods show absolutely nothing of concern, and I'll be having my fingers crossed for you and the most lovely Meowzi!

what thread on health? i'll have to go see. i feed the ferals friskies. and monster gets a treat of the senior turkey one before bed. trying to keep weight on him.

"she'd gained 1/2 lb" + "only averaging 98 food calories" = huh?
something i have always wondered about.... why isn't she skinny with all her appy issues? i know not active, but neither are lots of cats at 16 yrs old. and kidney cats are usually on thin side too. she have secret stash of fuds for past year hidden under bed? she does have thumbs ya know...
hope the brand-new fresh shiny mirtz does the trick and brings the calorie level back up.

FB PM me the BW when you get, k? all paws crossed. don't get yourself wound up, just wait to see what you get. who knows what those numbers are gonna be? no one, so stressing before you get them doesn't help. hey they might be beautiful.

and i don't blame her, this winter has been horrible and loooooooooooooong for all. everyone will perk up come spring. including the hoomans. 2 weeks and maybe she can go out in stroller? geez i hope so! for her, for us, for pictures, for ferals, for everyone. done with this winter crappus!
(i just had to open back door to their deck this week. heat bill will be horrible but they just had to go out for some fresh air and bird/squirel watching. so cute there is a million little kitty paw prints in the foot of snow on deck).

ps. been 20 days since a touch of green. it is full moon right now so can't do anything with a white cat but after tues's BW draw maybe add a drop o' insulin? ooooor see what BW results are and ask vet if she can have a little increase in SQuids and see if there is dehydration and if there is, if more fluids make numbers bettah?

b/c we've been supplementing her food calories with treat calories  notice i refer to 'food' calories only. when she was on raw food, she was eating 3 oz a day, but after she switched to canned, i figured she wouldn't be absorbing enough nutrients, so i 'supplemented' her with treats. freeze-dried chicken treats and crunchy chicken and crunchy turkey treats. they're all-meat treats, so won't hurt her (except maybe for the phosphorus content - hasn't so far, but we'll see), and boosts her protein a little to make up for no more raw. she can eat up to 2 oz of freeze-dried chicken a week, in addition to the chicken and turkey crunchies, so there's probably quite a few calories there that we're not adding up.

will do. not stressing over it, but being realistic. it is what it is. mentally prepping myself just in case. i know this is one battle we can't win, but doesn't mean we won't try to to give it our best shot, without compromising her QOL. i am hoping for beautiful numbers b/c i'm eager to start her on gabapentin, so can't say i don't have my fingers crossed.

awww, kitty paw prints in snow  i kept trying to get cali to go out and explore, but she keeps running back in, silly girl

sure, we can raise her to 1.0 unit. vettybean has said we can go up to 100 mls bid if we like, but i've been wary b/c it does cause some steep drops, exacerbated if she won't eat - if we had to choose, would you go with 25 ml more SQuids or drop more insulin? don't want to try both together. i think i may prefer SQuids (depends on b/w) - but what do you think? or wait for b/w?

i would wait for BW. that might make decision for you so no sense deciding before we see that.

oh. i didn't know she ate so many treats. i think you have to count those as calories in. cause like ..they are.

((WCF))I hope the weather changes to more sunny days for Meowzi!
And.. that the sun brings a good appy too :-D

Give the beautiful Meowzi a chin scritch from us..
