Yesterday http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=76291 was a bounce recovery day and night.

8/2 Recap
AMPS 331 +5 355
PMPS 410 +3 385

Last night Neko saw us packing and stayed very close. She slept snuggled up to DH and was the first in bed. She only occasionally sleeps with us, so she was keeping an eye on us. The numbers show a bit of stress. Little did she know she was coming with us!

We made it to Spokane after almost 8 hours on the road. The border wasn't bad - we went to one a bit further away. However, the road traffic near Seattle was CRAZY! It probably added an hour to the trip. Neko was a champ! We kept her in the kennel until we were through the border then let her out. Unfortunately she had peed inside the kennel. But it's only towels and the hotel has a laundry. After we let her out she explored the car and tried resting several places, including my lap, on the seat beside me, and shotgun in the back. No really long sleeps so she'll sleep well tonight. Lu-Ann's trick of having one side of the back seat down in the sedan was great. She had access to (but didn't use) the LB back there and found places to hide in our luggage when we stopped for gas.

Thanks to the calm in car vines from LL and a bit of Rescue Remedy, Neko is doing much better traveling that either of us thought she would. I am glad we decided to do this in three days instead of two, she was starting to time out at the end. She has explored the room and now is behind a chair catching up on her rest. Almost time for PM test and feed. I'm a bit worried about the insulin. The cooler seems a bit warmer than I'd like.

Re: 8/3 Neko AMPS 441 +5 320 - 1st travel day

glad to hear a report from you! sounds like Neko is less stressed than you guys!

re the peeing in the crate - Rupert does that everytime we take him to the vet, he gets really stressed. Hubby got these 'soak up' pads from work, I think they sell them for mechanics shops for oil spills etc??? we tape a couple inthe bottom of the crate and they work like a charm. you might be able to find some at a hardware type store down there? heck, probably Walmart in the automotive section.

good luck on tomorrow's drive!

PMPS 252
Yes, Neko is obviously less stressed about this trip than I thought! She wolfed down dinner. Guess we better whip out to dinner and get back quickly to see where she goes next.

@Pip - thanks for the tip. The other option is puppy pee pads but it might be easier to find a Walmart/hardware store around here.

Re: 8/3 Neko PMPS 252 - 1st travel day

Glad to hear from y'all, been thinking about you today. Nice travel report. :-D Yeah, I worried about Hershey's numbers when we took him to the beach and they were TERRIFIC! Guess he likes traveling more than he lets on.

Looking forward to more good reports!

Have a great night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

So glad to hear that Neko is traveling well. You can buy puppy pee pads in any supermarket and they work well (and you can just throw them away if they get soiled). But now that Neko is riding outside the carrier, you won't have that problem. The litterbox will be there!

Have a good trip. We'll be thinking of you and sending good-travel vines.

Ella & Rusty

Yay, Neko! You did great. Good job in not making a fuss at the border. :-D Safe travel vines being sent.

Re: 8/3 Neko PMPS 252 - 1st travel day

It's amazing how Neko adapted so well to the trip! Maybe all he wants is to stay with you, nothing else matters. You know, some of my cats cried so loud whenever I put them inside the carrier to take them to the vet. People on the street looked at me as though I am kidnapping somebody's cat!
Safe journey Wendy & Neko!

Re: 8/3 Neko PMPS 252 + 225 - 1st travel day

+2 225
Trying to look at my spreadsheet and figure out what she is doing tonight. She usually goes up after a yellow start so we are seeing progress.

Neko is great in the hotel room. She has been playing with the nanner a lot, using her scratch post, rubbing my legs (probably wants more food ), lying on DH's lap, and now she is just lying at my feet. Very affectionate. Unfortunately we seem to have gotten the crying baby section of the hotel. But the sound doesn't seem to be phasing her. I'm so proud of my little girl.

@Libby - Neko seems to be getting over her bounce around the same time as Hershey. I'm hoping I'll see blue tonight too. Any time I've traveled with Neko before she has seemed VERY unhappy. Much quieter today.

@Anne - Neko definitely wants to be with us, maybe we can take her on more trips now!

@Ella - thanks on the tip for buying the pee pads. I found a pet store near the hotel, but they don't open until 10 and we'll be long one by then. Neko starts out in the carrier and we put her there to go into the hotel, so we might get pee pads in case there are any longer carrier stays.

@Sienne - thanks for the vines, hopefully they'll work against the monster traffic we've seen. Bad for us but saw some even worse going the other way.

@Liz - all the prep I did so I could take Neko across the border (got rabies certificate, copy of prescriptions, etc.) and the guard just waved us through. Better than the other way. Not a peep from Neko.

@Helen - Neko normally cries all the way to the vet, and it's only 5-10 minutes trip. Maybe she realizes it's different this time.

Re: 8/3 Neko PMPS 252 +3 225 +4 151 - 1st travel day

Coming late to this (but here in Afica we just got up) - sounds like a great first day! I'm so pleased for you, DH, and Neko!

More Calm-Travelling Vines coming your way. And some butterflies for Neko for being such a good girl!

Hey Wendy, Neko & DH!!

I didn't realize that you had already left Canada for Colorado, i'm sending safe travel vines to everyone.

Are you stopping for Neko pee breaks? Leo didn't use his car lb either but we stopped every few hours to let him out to pee and sure enough he peed for me everytime.

I'm guessing you'll be there bright and early for Monday morning? Say hi to Drs Timian and Griffin from Leo and i. :-D

Hoping today went just as smoothly for you as it did yesterday.

PS i hope you turned off your cell phone roaming, because i just got my bill back and it was $800, all due to US roaming charges  :o

Hi Wendy, glad you all got there safe. Neko's numbers are sure starting to look good the first day. Lots of good wishes and vines to you and Neko.

HI Wendy - Quite the traveler Neko is - how nice that is. Numbers aren't too bad either. :-D

Welcome to Seattle traffic... it is like that no matter what time of the day you travel anywhere near the city. Never a good thing... and 405??? It just isn't much better! I hope it didn't delay things too much.....

Good luck with the next leg. I hope it goes well!

I could swear i posted yesterday, but things are much more complicated on my phone. sounds like travel is going well.
