Hello Lantus Land,

This is Linda and Bear Man posting on behalf of LLEF to ask for your help.

Desi ("DD and Tinkerbell") needs help with caring for Tawny, who has been very sick with DKA since Sunday. Some of the "Old Timers" here in Lantus Land may remember that Desi was a regular poster here in with her kitty, Tinkerbell, who went OTJ after a long journey with diabetes. As you know, Desi suffered great personal tragedy, but despite this went on to add Tawny, a DCIN kitty in need of a new home, to her large feline family.

Here is Desi's post in LL on Sunday, describing Tawny's worsening illness.

Tawny has been at the vet receiving care since that night, and the bill is in the thousands of dollars. DCIN is also running a fundraiser, which has so far been unable to raise enough funds to cover the cost of Tawny's care. Venita of DCIN has asked for LLEF's assistance in raising awareness that Desi and Tawny are in desperate need of our help. According to Desi's last update, Tawny is now on a feeding tube.

(Note that donations to DCIN are tax deductible, while LLEF is not able to offer tax receipts).

Whichever option you choose, all donations will go toward giving Tawny a chance to recover from DKA and to go back to living the happy life she shared with Desi. Both Desi and Tawny have been through so many challenges in their lives. I ask that you consider donating whatever amount you can to this very worthy family.

For those of you who don't know Desi, she is an incredibly dedicated bean. Tinkerbell went OTJ after several years -- no doubt a bit of Disney magic with that! If you've ever had a cat with DKA, you know how costly treatment can be. If you are able, please lend Desi and Tawny a hand, or paw.

I know Desi a little bit, just from the Old Board and PMing now and then. She is an incredible bean, and cares for a lot of critters (including 17 cats, is it, Desi?) and she has a HUGE Heart :-D and she works like crazy to support all these critters. Desi is a very special person. :YMHUG:

If I can give more next paycheck, I will.

LLEF has received $300 in donations so far. I do not have an update from Venita, but I believe that she has received some donations through DCIN.

Your help is greatly appreciated. This fundraiser is still active, so please consider donating if you can.

Thank you Lantus Land so much for caring for Tawny.

DCIN's chip in shows that DCIN has received $685 from 10 contributors. Thank you LLEF for the additional $300.

The Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center (LVRC), which has posted about Tawny on its Facebook wall, is giving DCIN significant diacounts on its services. Even with that, the bill this afternoon stood at $1900. It appears that the bill will be about $3K for Tawny's care.

Again, thank you all for your care. The important thing is getting Tawny home to Desi, and it appears that will happen. Although Tawny's condition is still critical, I believe her prognosis is positive, given the great care she is getting from the skilled emergency and internal medicine veterinarians at LVRC.

Thank you LLEF for your support, contributory & otherwise, and DCIN for yours, and FDMB for yours, and LVRC for their stellar care of and caring for Tawny, I believe she has truly touched the hearts of everyone there, too! As usual, Desi, Tinkerbell, Tawny, et al are once again eternally grateful for the support and caring of everyone.

Dr. Hebert reported about 1/2 hr ago that Tawny "nibbled all day" and will be getting her regular 1.0u dose of Lantus this evening!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

They will be monitoring her overnight of course.

I get to visit her in the morning!

YAY!

Wanted to let you know that between DCIN and the LLEF, we raised $1100 towards Tawny's $3,000 bill.

I am hoping there will be more donations, because DCIN doesn't have $1,900 in unrestricted monies. But whether we do or not, the entire bill is on DCIN's credit card. Tawny's chip-in, which doesn't reflect the $350 from LLEF, is here.

Thank you especially to the folks who donated because of the appeal on the Lantus ISG, whether through DCIN or LLEF. And thank you all immensely for your prayers and healing thoughts.

Thanks again to all of the folks who helped with Tawny's stay at the vet, both financially and with your prayers and encouragement.

Please see Venita's post above. DCIN still needs to recover the balance of their funds used to pay Tawny's vet bill. Both DCIN and LLEF are still gratefully accepting donations for this cause.

Desi is one of the most kind-hearted gentle souls you will ever meet. Tawny is the luckiest kitty to have been saved by Desi.

Tawny is back at the vet hospital tonight. She and Desi are in need of our thoughts and prayers. Both DCIN and LLEF are asking for donations to help with Tawny's ongoing care.

DCIN has been approached by an anonymous donor who wishes to extend a challenge to the folks on the Lantus ISG, the other FDMB forums, and DCIN's Facebook page. This challenge applies to all donations made on behalf of Tawny through LLEF, DCIN's chip-in, directly to DCIN's PayPal account at donate@dcin.info, or by mail to DCIN, starting at 8am Eastern this morning.

This donor will match, dollar for dollar, all donations made for Tawny's hospitalizations, up to a total donation from her of $1,000. That is a huge amount, but if DCIN is able to capture all of that challenge, DCIN will be about three-quarters of the way to having the amount it needs to pay this bill.

You can double the power of your donation to DCIN for Tawny by making a donation after, well, now. You give $5, Tawny gets $10. You give $10, Tawny gets $20.

DCIN has been getting donations as small as $2 for Tawny. And we welcome them. I know that each and every donation, small, medium, or large, comes from the heart from love and concern for Desi and Tawny.

And if you can't donate, that's OK. Desi and Tawny need the power of this Board to get through this crisis. Send white light, good thoughts, prayers!!

This community is rising to this challenge. This morning DCIN received an additional $495 in donations from 6 donors. Thus, DCIN has captured $495 from the anonymous donor. Keep up the good work---only $505 to go to meet this challenge.

It is truly an honor to be honored in such a very special way In Honor of Jill (& Alex) and Mike.

My and Tawny's deepest thanks goes out to the anonymous donor who extended the challenge yesterday, to all those who rose to the occasion and helped DCIN to capture the challenge, and indeed, we second that very special thanks to Lantus Land Friends who honored Tawny so with their caring and generosity.
