We are doing the PDM due to another issue. WE actually sent samples back to purina at one point for a quality check. Attie has had a bowel issue for quite some time now. We've tried just about everything including switching to the Dr. Lynn's food list too. So we decided it best to try and stay consistent for awhile and see if it helps...at all. He is now on Tylosan, http://www.vetinfo.com/treating-diarrhea-tylosin.html which can take 30 days to even begin to see an improvement. Fiber, childrens immodium, wormed 3x's, feline holistic stuff, etc. Pectalin...

I am beginning to wonder if it is a symptom of neuropathy of the bowel? We did the blood work to check for pancreatitis too.

Atlas maybe clinging to the ceiling tonight due to a really severe thunderstorm that came through. The storms came through at 65mph this afternoon. Lots of high wind, rain, bolts of ground to sky lightening. Lots of areas with light out tonight.

I am hoping to start to get some numbers back on my meter here in a little bit.

Are you using the Pectalin on a regular basis? I'm assuming this is Pro-Pectalin and it's a probiotic that's in gel form? If this is what I described, there's sugar in it. One of the vet's at the practice I use prescribed it for Gabby. I didn't look it up before I brought it home. Once I did, I noticed that the ingredients include powered sugar.

I can't say I have any knowledge regarding neuropathy of the bowel. Is there any logic to the idea that methyl B-12 would help with that?

I'm presuming that the PDM is Purina DM. It's not awful re. carbs (7%) unless Atlas is very carb sensitive.

Is there any chance that some of the bowel issues are allergy related? Have you been able to try him on novel proteins like duck or venison?

i've been admonished about telling "kitty excursion tales", but i can promise we don't have any sugary fud when we par-tay!

Atlas had a good time, tho...so many new friends. no chocolate cake, but stu can grill a mean meal!
good luck, Atlas-man... we still on for 2moro? with a name like yours, you hold up the world AND help us navigate around it!

I caught that on the label too, but we were only going to use it for 3-5 days at the time. If there was no improvement, we were onto something else.

Like I said in the months he has had this loose watery bowel, poos twice a day, both nearly liquid like. Sometimes gaseous, sometimes not.

We did boiled chicken...he loved the idea, but it didn't help. We did fortiflora probiotics ...like I said we've pretty much exhausted everything. So, here we are with the tylan. I've been reading about Red Desert Clay...? Are we desperate or what?! The thing is no matter what we do there is literally no improvement. It 's not like a little here or there...it is NO improvement. Whatever he has doesn't seem contagious to the other cats in the home either. So...allergy maybe...to what?

Yeah, we're still on for 2moro. I'll be good when all the B & B's stop. I hate storms...

Man, how frustrating this must be for ya. Pooh on the pooh issue. Wish I had some words of wisdom.....but I'm a total newbie here....Just wanted to wish Atlas the best w/the intestinal issue and the BG numbers. Yeah, one of my cats totally freaks w/any storm. Here's to sunny weather for ya.

There's another probiotic that a member here suggested when Gabby was having problems with diarrhea -- Renew Ultimate Critical Care. It has a high percent of bifidobacteria -- much higher than in FortiFlora. I found it in the refrigerated supplement section at Whole Foods.

Did you try metronidazole (Flagyl)? Gabby went through 3 bouts of vomiting and liquipoo not all that long ago. It took about 4 - 6 weeks on the meds for her system to get back on line. My vet tried a shorter course and whatever was going on came back. The only thing that we also did as a last resort was a fecal culture. It's a test that Idexx labs will run and it's not cheap. It will tell you if there's anything bacterial growing. If you look on the "lab results" tab on Gabby's SS, at the bottom is what the culture assay for. Did the vet also rule out giardia?

My cat has some major IBD--which is basically a fancy way of saying we don't know exactly what's wrong, but your cats digestive system doesn't work right. Constant vomiting and diarrhea. She was on Reglan, but it made her weird, so she's now on Cisapride 3xday. Her poos are perfect and no vomiting (double anti-hex). I've tried to cut it down to 2xday, but the poo gets mushy after a day.

Slippery Elm has been recommended if you're looking to go the natural route; I haven't tried it yet because I was having success with the reglan/cispride and dealing with the diabetes and didn't want to take any chances.

She's also on a single, novel protein diet of duck. I don't think it was a food allergy exactly--although I do think she might have an allergy to fish--because her system still doesn't really work without the Cisapride, but I do know that a single protein source is easier to digest for sensitive stomachs. So if you wanted to start simple, I may just begin with that. The 95% EVOs are good for that (except the turkey and chicken). Although I would avoid beef and lamb as those have a bad rap with digestion as well.

Good luck with this tricky boy. You're doing great!

I will look for the Renew stuff. We used both fortiflora and bactiquin.

We tried metronidazole and Atlas is allergic to it!!!! Rinse and Repeat that for anyone considering adopting this ole boy. He is allergic to metro. His reaction isn't even listed for metro, but when we stopped it...it cleared and when I "test attempted" again later...viola flushing rash, swollen thick ears, et al. within 24 hours. We did a few days of chlorphen to clear that up. twice.

Giardia, I assume he checked for that when I dropped cultures off? Has to pull them from the box fresh, in a sterile syringe, with no littir on them. Although we have gone through another round of vet teck changes at the shelter. The new tech is certified, so I'll have to ask if it is in Attie's records, what exactly they checked for.

Atlas isn't vomiting etc. it is just these annoying twice a day runny poo.
