I hope you're having a good Saturday.

Gayle mentioned using R in your condo yesterday (Humulin R, or Regular insulin). That is a possibility, but it would require a lot more testing, especially at first. R is a powerful, fast acting insulin that is used as a supplement to Lantus/Levemir. When you first start using R, you need to be able to test every hour for the first 4-5 hours of the cycle until you figure out what your cat's onset, nadir, and duration are for R. Once you collect the data, then you can back off a little bit.

R is useful in some cases. Meadow is really flat with Lantus, so R might help bring her down to where she is flat in a lower range. If you want to give it a try, people can help you get started. It does require a commitment at first, as you are figuring out Meadow's response to R.

Hi Amber,

hope you're doing well, I was just looking for an update on Meadow.

How was she today? Eating well and things like that?

Will check back later for an update.

Sorry I'm so late in updating spreadsheet. I had to run out and didn't have time to get on the computer before I left. Back in the stupid 400's, and I didn't feed her evening meal until after PMPS. She didn't have any food within 4 hours of the 6th hr BG, nor anything up to PMPS. This is so frustrating. So, do I need a prescription for R? I start a new job on Friday, so I'll have to see when I'm scheduled before I start anything new. I'll have to work some weekends too.

R does not require a prescription in most states. I would be hesitant to suggest you start R until you knew what your schedule looks like. However, it is not like Lantus in that it is a short acting insulin. It can lower BG very quickly, which is why you will need to monitor closely until you have a clear idea of how it effects Meadow. You start at a tiny dose for just that reason. I know that Gayle uses R but I don't believe she will dose with R if she isn't going to be home.
