Ok... it was a dark and storming morning...

First thing that happened when I turned on the kitchen light today was seeing a centipede about 4 inches from my hand. Centipedes. Even the word makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. That is one creature I absolutely cannot stand. And where there's one... They're so creepy. I haven't seen one in a while - I was hoping they were all hanging out in the basement or in the empty apartment downstairs. This isn't a good sign - usually once I see one, they keep cropping up for at least a while after. Luckily, I didn't have the insulin vial in my hand, cuz that seriously could have startled me into dropping it.

Kasha didn't express interest in breakfast. I finally just got out the chicken dust and she ate maybe 1 Tbsp, maybe a little more. She really isn't into eating at shot times - she prefers to eat later in the day (as do I).

Blue's breakfast was gone before Kasha even touched hers.

I'm going to repeat a reply from yesterday's condo, cuz it was late:

how did he get the name Blue since he is white? just curious I think I expected to see a pic of a grey cat

I'll have to get some better pics out there. He got the name Blue for his one blue eye... His brother, Big White Cat (GA) had 2 golden eyes and when they were little, we could only tell them apart by eye color...

See, I have no problem with a tarantula as a pet. My brother had a tarantula named Lucy when we were younger (and she bit him many times!). I'm not normally fond of insects and spiders, but they are fine outside of my house. I expect the occasional inside guest, but centipedes make me react in a way I'd prefer not to ever have to react!!!

I have a centipede story:

This happened when I first moved into this house with my ex-bf, about 14 years ago... he was a no-nonsense guy, construction worker/general contractor type that wasn't ruffled by anything (other than me). We'd had some sort of argument and weren't speaking. I got up early for work, walked into the kitchen and turned on the light. There was a translucent plastic bowl in the sink and I noticed a shadow on the opposite side of it. I peered a little closer, thinking "what is that? Is it mold? How could mold have grown overnight?" and then - poof! I was in the hallway. Before I even realized what it was I was seeing, my brain reacted and I'd backed into the hallway. Then I woke up my ex (who wasn't my ex,then - right?). I stuttered his name (I don't stutter!) - several times before he woke up. Finally he asked what I wanted and I told him "there's a b-b-b-b-ug". He sighed and got up, irritated at me. He walked into the kitchen and peered into the sink. I heard thumping noises and the water running. I asked "did you kill it? Or did you just wash it down the drain?" He said, "I killed it" I said "Are you sure?" He said, "I'm positive". And there was no more talk of it that morning. At work I started worrying about that centipede, thinking that maybe I should get an exterminator. Or sell the house. Then I thought, no - that's crazy. Kasey (my ex) would laugh at me for thinking that I should get an exterminator because we found one centipede!

When Kasey got home that night, we were talking and he said, "You know, I was thinking maybe we should get an exterminator or something". I laughed and said that I'd thought the same thing, but I'd expected him to make fun of me for overreacting to a single incident. Kasey just looked at me and said (and I'll clean this up a little): "That was one freakin' ugly bug".

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Thanks for sharing the centipede story.
I love looking at the pictures of your cats (They Are Gorgeous!).
I wish Blue all the best in his recovery.

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Really nice AMPS for Kasha. They are picky eaters and eat when they want to eat. Glad to hear Blue is feeling good and eating. Yes...I'm up early again.

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Eww bugs, with me its spiders, if I see a spider ugh, the shivers run down my spine just thinking about then.

On the plus side....WOW Kasha, you're doing fantastic!

Love this story its classic :-D

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Beautiful amps for Kasha this morning! I am so happy that that fur shot didn't mess things up for her. Good going Kasha!

Bugs..yuck! A few years ago I had bug issues at my new house. Bought it in May, Mom moved in in June, sister and her three kids moved in at the end of September and the middle of October we became the Bug-a-boo's. My two nieces came home from school with head lice, my cats got fleas real bad (I had NEVER had flees in my apartment and I not only had the three cats, but two dogs--people I bought the house from had dogs...they had the fleas), and the roaches from the house next door decided that they wanted to visit a clean house (again, I had NEVER had roaches...I am an excessivly clean person). We worked for two months to get rid of every bug....Treated the cats, the yard and the house for fleas...had to treat the girls at least 3 times for the lice, and I moved everything out of the kitchen cabinates and put boric acid everywhere the cats couldn't get to and in all the cracks and crevices. FINALLY they were gone...I was having nightmares for weeks.

Spot was very happy to see Kasha and Blue last night at the Solstice Party. He was more than happy to hang out with Blue to make sure he didn't party to much and they had lots of knee slapping laughs. Spot said that Blue was talking about doing some three legged surfing and sack races...that silly Blue!! BTW, BLue is one beautiful kitty. My Blue (GA) was also white and had two blue eyes :-D

Kasha says "Thanks for noticing!"... Gotta enjoy it when you can...

Spiders aren't my favorite (BTW - centipedes eat bugs, INCLUDING spiders!!!) either. Even ruling out all the scary stories I've heard about people and cats who were bitten by brown recluse spiders (which live in Ohio, though I've never seen one at my house). Someone I work with had to put their cat to sleep after what the doctors assumed was a brown recluse bite - they struggled for months, the cat had surgery to remove necrotic tissue and eventually ended up fighting a blood infection and that was that.

My main issue with spiders come from the fact that I have long hair and I've always had long hair. Spiders can get caught in long hair... When I would ride my horse on paths in the woods, I SWEAR he would see a big spider web and drop his head down just before it so my face and body would go right thru it. Ugh. Shivers... And once I came in from being out in the woods to find a spider in my hair. I couldn't get it out - it ended up coming out in pieces. Double ugh!!!

But the spider story that still freaks me out a bit is one from my current house. For a while - the lock on the front door didn't work so we had it secured from the inside. That meant you couldn't use that door to leave the house, because you couldn't lock it from the outside. So, we'd use the back/side door. One morning, I trotted down the steps on my way to work, opened up the back door and nearly ran into a spider web that spanned the entire door frame (we didn't have a storm door on that door at the time). I closed the door to regroup. Big spider in middle of web. I felt trapped. Thought about climbing out a window. The broom and rakes were in the garage - which is outside. Considered calling in to work. Eventually, I think I found a broom and summoned up some courage, threw open the door and demolished the web. Probably threw the broom in the yard till later - LOL...

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Oh yeah - Kasha dropped to 103 around +2 when I left for work. I left out some 9% food for her and she was eating it up when I left. Hopefully, she'll be stable over the course of the morning and not drop too low.

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

I don't freak out with bugs. We've had them all over the years, and with the exception of roaches (who used to live in our record-album jackets and, in one apartment we had, in a crack in the kitchen cupbord we called the "roach house"), I never minded them. My mother, who kept a nice, clean house on Long Island, was mortified when she and my dad moved to Florida and she saw a huge roach in their new house. Roaches!! Oh no!! Then a neighbor told her they were Palmetto bugs, and she accepted that and all was OK. I laughed when I visited and saw a "Palmetto" bug. "Hey mom, I see you have big roaches here." "Oh no, dear, those are Palmetto bugs".
Good AMPS for Kasha today. Hope Blue has another good day of healing.

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Every time I hear people say "Palmetto bugs" I think "Who are you kidding? Those are ROACHES!!!". A friend of mine moved to NYC after college and I remember her telling me about "water bugs". Turned out that those too were huge roaches. Ugh. I have a roach story too if anyone wants to hear it - LOL... I'm guessing Sienne could do without it.

I stopped in to check on Kasha at lunch and she was at 156 around +6.7 or so. I think it's funny that I'm a little disappointed that it's so high (given our history over the last month or 2, I should thank my lucky stars for blues!). I think she either gorged on the supposedly 9% carb food and raised her BG or else she dropped lower than I would like and this is the beginning of a bounce. Hopefully I'll get more of an idea when I get her PMPS.

It would be just like her to bounce so that we go back to the high numbers at night when I can monitor and low numbers in the daytime when I'm at work!!!

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171

Hi Kasha and Blue!
What about Daddy Long legs spiders; are those roaches? I've seen a few of them here in our complex.

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171 PMPS 170

I think Kasha likes symmetry today.

She ate only a little over 1 Tbsp dinner. I'm trying an experiment to just let her eat what she wants and hope she eats enough over the course of time. I can at least track her a little since Blue is still in the cage and I know she's the one eating her food. I have to call and find out about getting her groomed. And by groomed, I mean shaved in a little lion cut cuz it's been sooo much easier on both of us with her fur short - fewer hairballs and no mats. Yay. It's also easier to shoot when her hair is short short. And it's easier to tell if she looks skinny or not. Plus - she's so crazy cute when she looks like a tiny lion.

I think I'm going to drive out to a nearby park and take a hike/walk. I'm tired of my immediate surroundings. I'll check in later.

Ann - no, Daddy Long Legs are NOT roaches... LOL... But their legs do come off when you try to untangle them from long hair - I'm afraid I know that from experience...

BTW, Kasha and Blue had a good time at the party last night. Blue said it was good to get out after being cooped up for 2 weeks. Plus, they both enjoyed Chef Stu's creations. Blue also wants me to thank Stu and Spot for hanging out with him since he wasn't allowed to get out and "cut a rug" like he normally would do if he hadn't been recovering from surgery. He also said he was excited to find out what Maggie really looks like!!! She's pretty cute, he said

Re: 6/22 Kasha AMPS 171 PMPS 170

Kasha had a nice blue day. I've got to get that digital so everyone can see how cute Maggie is and what a flirt, too! Daddy Long legs in the hair, lol! I usually find one in the bathroom! My GA cat used to just watch them like in a trance!

Beetle in the since when I got home from my hike. What is it with bugs in my sink today?

For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to pick up wonton soup for dinner. It's hot and humid and I felt like I would do better with gills while I was hiking cuz the air was so thick with moisture. And then I decided to get soup. Hmmm... and baked cinnamon apples. My stomach thinks it's winter. And Kasha is mad cuz I don't have anything to share with her.

Poor Kasha! What, no more yummy food. Nice numbers today for Kasha. I picked up a turkey breast Subway sandwich before coming home. I love all the fresh veggies. I want to try some of those Halo chicken treats for Maggie since the salmon freeze dried don't agree with her.

Oh hey - FYI... I often order my Halo Live a Littles from Vitacost.com. They are having a rare sale now - 10% off online orders with the code TENOFF until 6/25/10. They have the chicken liv a littles for $7.63 for the 2.2 oz jar. I buy a lot of my supplements there, they generally have pretty good prices.

I haven't heard Kasha sneeze at all today, but I'm sneezing and my eyes are all itchy. What's going on?

I almost never drink coffee, Sienne. Makes my heart pound.

She's been holding steady - her +4 was 79...
