Today I gave Boots 5mg. of zyrtec. I think it cause her blood sugar to go up. Tonight it was 151. It hasn't been that in 4yrs.
Her A1c level was that of normal non-diabetic cat in last weeks test results. She stays around 70 and 2hrs before shot is at 90.

Nothing besides the 5mg.'s of Zyrtec is different, but the added supplement Dasuquin. Recently she was diagnosed w/advanced mouth disease which is being taken care of shortly. I know that can cause high BS's., but hasn't so far.

I really wanted to give her some itch relief for dermatitis. Has anyone experienced high BS.'s with zyrtec ? Online I read that some people with
    Diabetes 2 have.

This is very upsetting to me, as she normally has had amazing BS's. She has a partial working pancreas and for the last 4 yrs. has only need 1/2 unit of insulin
twice a day. I was actually thinking after the dental work, she might go OTJ

It could be that the mouth problems are finally catching up to her. Is she on an antibiotic to manage any oral infection from the mouth problems?

    Hello,,,
The vet wanted her to start the probiotic first and her blood work did not indicate any infection.
BS. is 80 now. (8 hours since last shot.) She is due for a zytrec dose around 3pm. this afternoon.
Think I'll give again. Don't think I'll be home to check her BS. It seemed to spike about 3-4 hrs after
    she got the zytrec.

Are her gums red with gingivitis, or is it a different problem?

And, is she eating around the same time as getting the Zyrtec? If there is any synergy between those 2 factors, you might see if doing them at somewhat different times helps.

I have been wondering about using Zyrtec for my cat with bad asthma. I have been researching and I am concerned about exactly what u said... It increased you cat's BG. My cat runs high as it is. I was going to ask her IM specialist at her next appt. i do give my cat 1/8 dose of Cyproheptadine which you probably have heard of. It is used as an appetite stimulant but also has antihistamine in it. I use it for both purposes. I cant be sure if it is helping much with her asthma sx. I give such a low dose And only about once a week.

Zyrtec is supposed to be the best antihistamine out there right now for cats. Most of the info. says it won't raise the BS.
But I found some users, not usual, but definitely raised theirs. I think it's worth a try, as if raised all BS. in diabetics,
there would be a better and more warning. I think it's a small percent and Boots might fall under it.

Boots free feeds, so I'm not sure if she ate as dose kicked in. She didn't eat right after getting, but could have as
dose took hold. She was a bit out of it, when I checked the high BS. Because of her behavior, I checked, thinking
she was low. High BS. usually put her in a good mood and lows make her out of it. Might just be her body adjusting
    to the drug.

I am starting raw again today, to see if I can clear up the bumps (the reason she's on Zyrtec)

Just took BS. Was 2hrs late giving shot and she was 70. shot usual 1/2 unit. I don't have to go out now, so I
can check a few hours into her taking the zyrtec and see if it spikes again
so I am going to run a curve today and start a new spread sheet as well. Haven't done a SS in a long time, but with
the teeth cleaning coming and whatever else they find, I think it's as good a time as any to start. Might be asking for
help if I can't figure out

Regarding the itching, are you feeding kitty a grain-free diet? If not, that might be worth a try.

Also, possibly adding some omega 3 fatty acids to the food can help too (+, I just added Co-enzyme Q10, and my kitty's BG has become more stable).

Just trying to give you some ideas to try instead of the Zyrtec.

    Good luck.

I'm thinking like you....thinking of not doing. I was going to treat it temporarily w/Zyrtec, while switching over to raw. Give some relief w/med. while the new diet kicks in, but it's not looking like the benefits out way BG's and her being out of it. Would if the Zyrtec made her heart rate off and the BG's & her spaciness were caused from that? It's not worth the risk. She's 17.

I feed Evo canned turkey/chicken. She's had the rash for a while. When she was first diagnosed 5yrs ago I fed raw for about a year. When she was staying @1/2
unit, I got lazy and switched over for the convenience. Evo's been a wonderful food. Not blaming the food, secretly hoping it's the food, so I don't have to drug her. They did change owners, but she had the rash before the change, but not this bad. I'm thinking & hoping the raw will just be easier on her body and that always brings healing

The oils are hard to get in her. she won't eat the food if she smells a hint of them. Thank you for answering. I needed to talk about it with someone.
