Zoot! was prescribed B12 shots and got his first shot Monday 4/13. He had CBC/Chem work done at that time.

The results are continued good news for Zoot! in terms of his labwork (file attached). His labs came back pretty good. All within normal ranges except for three items:

    Potassium was high
    Na: K ratio was low
    Cholesterol was low

So we will talk to Vet today about what we can do to deal the weight loss and smelly poop along with the high Folate reading we got as part of his TLI testing. He is suggesting probiotics (he gets a pack of fortiflora a day but we are thinking we should switch to a better probiotic).

Our main concern is that he eats 2 times as much as our other cats, and is still losing weight. We will see what other recommendations he has when we speak to him.

Prior post with TLI info is here http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...ooking-at-next-steps-now.228106/#post-2555521

Sorry to hear the blood work didn't help diagnose. Side note, there is a Labs tab on the spreadsheet where those values can be entered, which is useful for spotting trends. And easier for most of us to read. Were any thyroid tests run? Hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss. After that, I'd think an ultrasound of the bowels would be next.

I used the Visbiome probiotic - it's good for IBD and other gut issues.

Has your vet suggested a internal medicine specialist?

thanks I will add the lab work - just need some down time today. Spoke with our Vet who wants to wait until we get another 1 or 2 B12 shots under the belt. I am not certain whether thyroid tests were done. We will talk with him again next week and will ask him. Also will look for the Visbiome we know we need something better than Fortiflora.

No he has not. Are you thinking of having them look at something in particular?

I didn't see any T4 tests on the bloodwork. Depending on the lab, sometimes thyroid tests are included in a senior or geri panel, sometimes not and you have to ask for them to be done additionally. Maybe next time if the b12 level is being tested again.

Internists are good at handling multiple issues, including endocrine issue (thyroid, diabetes for example) and internal gut issues.
