? Zobaline? Advice.

Fergus has weak back legs. We noticed it a little over a month ago when he started getting sick. He has been on Lantus since the begining of this month. We have switched to wet food. I noticed today his back legs are starting to drop, not just be weak, like walking less on his toes.
I can't bear the idea of him not being able to walk. This is the worst. I feel like my heart is being ripped out.

Help.

Does this supplement work?
Do I need to talk to my vet?
Can I or should I just buy it and give it?
Is it too late?

Hi Trisha,
Many have successfully used Zobaline to help their kitties with diabetic neuropathy :). I think many just buy it and start it on their own. Seems a lot of Vet's don't know much about it or tell people it doesn't work. It's just Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin and folic acid), any extra in the system gets flushed out when they pee. Most helpful seems to be getting their BG numbers under control. Might want to update your SS :).

It helps. Yoshi had terrible neuropathy. He's been on zobaline since march and is improving greatly. He improved as well once we got his diabetes under control. I know it's hard, but it takes time to heal.

Updated SS:). I had just gotten home from working 16 hours and whoa I was tiredo_O. I have to update the SS from the desktop in the family room and I usually post from my phone. I had showered, tested and fed and gotten to be, no leaving the bed after that, lol. I found a post about the med on the board; it was a pinned post. It was helpful. I think as soon as I can I will order it. I am very hopeful.

That is awesome. We are working on BS control like all of us. I just want to do all I can for him. I am glad Yoshi is feeling better. <3
 
Zobaline has been great for Shenandoah! She went from having a lot of neuropathy to having just a bit of a wobble (now her arthritis overrides any of that anyway).

You can get it without a prescription, it's just a supplement.

However, I would recommend still talking to your vet about it for two reasons.
1) if your vet needs to prescribe anything else, they know what he's on and how things might affect each other.
2) if your vet sees you using it and what progress Fergus makes, maybe s/he will start recommending it to other people, and we can start spreading the word farther - instead of most people just accepting their vet's word that "there is nothing you can do," leaving more cats suffering.

I started giving it to Chloe about a week ago and it hasn't affected her glucose level yet, but her back legs seem stronger.

I agree if I can help other kitties and owners then I want everyone to know. As a nurse I realize that letting the vet know all the meds my cat is on is important. However, it seems vets are not always on board with some care or practices. Ultimately we are the Cat Mamas so we need to make informed choices we can live with.

I read that the Zobaline is specially formulated for FD cats so there is no added glucose. That makes me really happy. Especially while trying to get Fergus under control.

Zobaline is the feline version of Xobalin, which should NEVER be given to cats. However, if it is too expensive, you can find Vitamin B12 at stores, but you have to read the ingredients carefully. Most have artificial fruit flavors and/or contain glucose, fructose, or some form of sugar. Also, may are sublingual.
