Hi. High-protein, low-carb wet food is the best option. If you have not see it yet, check out catinfo.org. It was created by Dr. Pierson and has all the info you could need about feline nutrition. Also, here is a post of hers: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...r-more-than-just-carbohydrate-content.175004/

If you need a dry food to use during the transition to wet food and/or as a treat, Young Again Zero Mature is a good choice since it has only trace carbs. Be forewarned that it has been known to cause soft, stinky poop! Another option is Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein. It has about 5% carbs, and I have not heard of it causing the poop issues.

From what their site says I believe it.

You have to remember....it "their site"....they're not going to say anything negative about their own products.

If you absolutely can't get your cat to eat canned, it's better than the other high carb kibbles, but it should really only be used as a last resort.

Water content is very important for all cats, not just diabetics. The kidneys are the weakest organs in cats (even worse in diabetics). The more water you can get into them, the healthier they're going to be. Canned foods are usually around 80% water.....just like a mouse (the perfect food for a cat)

I have been feeding them BFF so they like wet food, I feed dry at night (American journey) otherwise they wake me up as soon as the bowls ‘empty’

I have been feeding small amounts of this in addition to fancy feast classic. I credit it with helping my cat into remission the first time.

I’ve tried that but if the foods been out for 4 or so hours they won’t touch it. I’ve added water I’ve mixed it up...no luck
Some people use an auto-feeder so that new food becomes available at a schedule time during the night. I have seen others mention freezing food and leaving it out for the cat to eat as/after it thaws.

Young again gave Truffles a v upset tummy! I was on,y feeding a small amount in between meals. Stopped it and he’s fine again

I'm not a big fan of a lot of the ingredients in this particular food. Pork and fish as a main ingredient, I wouldn't want my cat eating that every day.

I'm going to second Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein Chicken if your cat is being stubborn about wet food. Grain and glutten free, only animal protein, chicken as the main ingredient, no fish, 4.6% carbs

My cat has been on Young Again Zero Mature since June 1. I leave it out for him 24/7, and he eats 1/3 can of FF with his shots. He is doing quite well on it. At first, his stool was very soft/and somewhat runny, but that has improved, although the smell is like a rotting carcass in 110 degree heat. It is really awful. His numbers have gone down some, too. I plan on keeping him on it.

Yes, I do understand your point on the first ingredient being pork. I find that rather odd, too. I wish it was chicken, but chicken is the second ingredient. He actually used to throw up about 3-4 times per month, and now he rarely does. His coat is so soft, and he actually likes this food. I like that he has access to food 24/7, and their philosophy on "free feeding." Since it is so high in protein, he doesn't eat more than about 1/3 cup per day, which the company says is completely normal. It is quite expensive, though. But Jerry had been eating dry food along with Sheba pate for years before I discovered that he is diabetic, so I think he is happy with this arrangement. I hope the new vet that I am seeing soon doesn't tell me to change his food.

It's expensive but it lasts a long time because they don't eat much of it pet day

I just got my bag in, I got ZERO PREMIUM HIGH PROTEIN CAT FOOD 54/26. The site said if that cat isn't on insulin yet to try that one -- so I did. I also picked up some of their treats CarnivoreYUMS™ for Cats. (I stopped feeding everything else at this point.) They jumped right in the first day -- now I have two bowls full 90% of the time. They are so used to "meal time" that I have to move the food to get them to eat. I understand the need and want for wet food. I'd like to make sure they get more water in their diet. Has anyone tried adding water to Younge Again -- I use to do this to their old food. They liked it. Also what about homemade chicken stock, with nothing added?

When I first started Jerry on YA, (probably for the first two weeks), I took all wet food away, due to actually having a phone conversation with the owner, who said that as long as he is eating Young Again regularly, I could give him his shots, (after I checked his glucose, of course.) So, I ended up putting him back on Fancy Feast again (1 can every 1.5 days), because he was ALWAYS crying for it. I didn't think it was fair to take it away from him, and since apparently, it is low carb, I didn't see the harm. He had been used to eating it every evening when I got home from work, and it was taken away abruptly. I only give him 1/3 can before every shot. He seems to be fine with that. I just want him to be happy with his food, and he seems to be, for now, at least.
