Hello,

My kitty Lana started insulin about a week ago. Insulin has been up and down and there may have been 1 or 2 times I missed the dose with poor technique.
I noticed she was acting a little off today so I measured glucose AMPS+3 and it was 356. Her head kinda has a strange smell(I don’t know if I’m convincing myself it’s ketoacidosis) but her breath smells normal stinky.

Any tips on what I should do right now?

Was the smell like acetone (nail polish remover) or was it more like bandaids?

It it smelled like nail polish remover, your cat could have diabetic ketoacidosis which is an emergency and you need to get your cat to an ER as soon as you can. If the smell was more like bandaids, you probably got a drop of Lantus on your cat's fur.

It would be helpful if you had a spreadsheet set up so we can offer more insight into what may be going on.

Sorry for the same input as Red & Rover. She posted as I'm typing.

We just started on insulin so I’m getting used to all this. It’s only been 7 days. My vet said not to test her yet because it’s so early in her treatment but luckily I did. We’re headed to the vet in an hour.

Any updates after the vet visit?
Yes. Such a long rollercoaster day but turned out positive! Thank you for asking.

Took her to the vet and she didn’t really look good there or in the car on the way. Was moving slowly.
They did the full urine tests with cultures. LUCKILY no ketones and she’s doing fine. Don’t know why her reading was so high. But I’m thankful everything worked out.

They did say she took a massive poop and that it looked pretty good just “as much as a German Shepard”. Which is an improvement because they were hard rocks as of late. But as soon as that happened she perked up and acted normal.

It does seem very likely she has a UTI but some antibiotics and she’s good. Waiting on the culture results to confirm.
