Wiggle Worm's bg numbers

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to let you know Wiggle Worm's numbers. Last night at 7:30 p.m. his sugar level was 184. So, I gave him 1 unit of PZI. This morning his sugar level was 139. Did not give insulin. He seems to be feeling well. I will work on the spreadsheet tonight.

One other question. Wiggle Worm's tail twitches very badly after he has insulin. He walks around wagging his tail like a dog does. Sometimes when he is trying to sleep, his tail bothers him so bad. Any thoughts?

Morning Angela,

Great job testing. I think the 1 unit is too much insulin for Wiggle Worm, that is why your morning bg test was too low to shoot, I'm really glad you didn't give any insulin. I would drop your dose to .75 units and keep us posted.

Good job on starting a new thread!

Where are you injecting the insulin? (scruff of the neck, flank etc).

Also, like I said last night, I think you need to reduce your dose so you can shoot twice a day. It might take a cycle or two for it to even out-- but the one unit is only allowing you to give one dose a day. I would drop down to .75 and see what that gives you.

You might want to check out some other spreadsheets-- 1 unit is a lot on 184.

Is Wiggleworm still eating dry food?

Wiggleworm might be a cat that could come off insulin eventually! His numbers are not bad.

The group will help you with dosing. Like I have told you earlier-- I am no expert on dosing, but I do think the 1 unit is too high.

Hello everybody,

You had asked where I shoot Wiggle Worm. I was shooting in the scruf but have been going down about 2 inches from there now. The needles that I give him his insulin with come from the vet. They only have the marks for 1, 2, 3, etc. Should I just estimate where .75 would be?

I do not know if he is eating the dry food or not. My guess is he does some while I am not at home. The food is out for my other cats. I keep two kinds of dry food out. One is the Wilderness, Duck and the other is Science Diet for Sensitive Stomach.

I really do not want to have to separate Wiggle Worm from my other 4 cats. They love each other and depend on each other very much. Two years ago on Good Friday, our house was hit by a tornado. All of my cats survived thanks to Wiggle Worm. Unfortunately, at the time Wiggle Worm lost his hearing. The vet thinks it was due to the roar of the tornado.

So, Wiggle Worm has had a lot of stress on him for the last 2 years. Bless his heart! He is the oldest of our cats and I have had him since the day of his birth. So, he definitely is my Baby.

I appreciate everyone of you responding. I thought my Baby was dead on Easter Sunday. Since that time and your advice, he is feeling much better and acting like he did before the storm.

Yea, my syringes are like yours also. I just eyeball mine the best I can. Some here use different syringes and a conversion chart-- see what Robin and others say. I would just eyeball it and use the syringes you have. Just note, you must use a conversion chart if you use a different syringe.

A tornado hit my neighborhood about 3 weeks ago--- very scary!

You are doing good--- glad Wiggle Worm is better!
 
I have the syringes from my vet that only have the 1,2,3
so I use a measuring tape, and put that next to the needle so I can see better
where the half numbers should be
