Why is Calley vomiting every day?

I don't know what is going on with Calley. Her bg levels are not that high so she has not been getting much insulin at all, yet she is eating a lot and still vomiting large amounts.

I haven't changed anything...same food every day. She is still not peeing/drinking that much like she used to.

The highest BG she has had in several weeks was in the low 300's...usually she is low 100's or low 200's. She was at 279 last night PMPS and at 184 AMPS today.

At most she is getting .5 insulin every 24 hours. So what is causing the vomiting?

This morning when I held her to do her testing...her tummy was gurgling and rolling. That was at 8:30am.....at least 9 hours since her last meal. What does that mean?

Does it appear to be scarf and barf? Or is she vomiting long after food is eaten? Does it look like food coming back up in other words? How long has this gone on? I would get her to the vet if it's been more than 2 days.

What about food allergies? I know you said you've been feeding her the same thing everyday, but what type and flavor. There could be a certain ingredient that doesnt agree with her.

Vet visit, now.

Differential diagnoses include:
Too much insulin
Food allergy
Partial bowel obstruction
Inflammatory bowel disease
Cancer in the GI tract
Pancreatitis
Hepatitis
Cholangitis
Etc.

It will help your vet if you look at my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools and do as many of those as you can before going. It gives the vet some context for vthe lab work that will likely be needed.

She's been vomiting on and off for weeks. It's clear liquid stuff and lots of it. It always seems to be in the morning/before noon. She eats several times throughout the day so its hard to say if it is after food....but it is not full of food. Always watery/liquidy.

Before I left on vacation she was had gone two weeks without vomiting. But the pet sitter said she vomited daily while I was gone.

I don't see how it can by hypo related if she isn't getting insulin to bring her down low. She is eating nonstop throughout the day....maybe as much as 7 times. And she still begs for food.

She had a thyroid test ran about two weeks ago. Before that her last blood work up was in March I think. Everything was normal then.

I guess i'll be taking her to the vet on Monday.

She has been eating the same variety of Friskees Pate...maybe three different flavors.

She eats all day/evening and keeps it all down. It's just usually in the morning..and she hasn't gotten a morning insulin shot in weeks.....as she is always low....mid 100's. Then she eats breakfast.

This sounds like stomach acid. I'd ask your vet about trying regular strength pepcid, 1/4 a pill before bed. It is a bitter pill so I always put it in a gel capsule before giving it.

What is causing stomach acid? There is no way in h*** that Calley will take a pill. I don't want to keep treating symptoms...I want to know the reason for the symptoms and cure that if at all possible.

Is the diabetes causing the stomach acid? The vet thought it might be IBS....but would that cause vomiting? Her poos have stabilized to formed and aren't runny any more.

Now the second cat I have has diarrhea.....ugh. If it ain't one thing, it's another. :(

Thanks all
Kristin

Is Calley any better w/ a liquid?
The quarter tablet can be put in an oral syring, some water sucked into the syringe, add a bit of mushy food to help mask the taste (do not use a favorite), then squirted in.

Another experiment I will have to try on Calley. I think the only reason she is tolerating the ear pricks is because she is too sickly to get away from me.

We'll see what the vet says on Monday.

Some people have luck with Pill Pockets; the one made of duck is fine for sugarkitties. My fussy eater picked the pill out of the pillpocket though. Now I had the pharmacy make a compound flavored like chicken for her thyroid medication.

Have you had any bloodwork done for Calley recently?

Re: the kitty with diarrhea, try 1/2 t. sugarless, babyfood squash or pumpkin with food. It helps with constipation too.

Is the 2nd kitty, with diarrhea, eating the same food? If so, maybe call Purina to find out if they've received any complaints recently. Maybe there was a "bad" batch of food lately?

I was going to mention hyperthyroid as a possible cause of repeated vomiting, but then read that she had that checked recently. The only time I saw symptoms like this was when Mullet got into some chocolate. But you seem to have two cases of digestive issues. Any chance they got into anything strange? Food, plants, etc.?

they might also try doing an ultrasound on her stomach and intestines to see if there are any obstructions or abnormalities.

Were you able to get into the vet today?

One of our cats vomits up frothy white liquid multiple times a day during summer especially. In her case it's hairballs that she always seems to have trouble getting up. When she starts on that we either mix a tsp of olive oil into her food twice a day, or if she's turning up her nose at that, a small lump of butter. Usually after a few doses of grease she pukes up the hairball (or poops it out) and is right as rain again for a few weeks until we repeat.
