I took my civvie to the vet a couple months ago because he seemed in pain and wasn't eating. Turns out he has arthritis in his back legs and he wasn't eating because it hurt too much to squat down to reach his food bowl. She gave me some Onsior pills for him and said if needed he could be on them indefinitely.

He is doing a bit better now, I started him on Nordic Naturals Omega 3 after the vet visit and just recently started giving him Cosequin, though it says it may take 4-6 weeks to see an effect. The Onsior didn't seem to help him any but he was only on it three days.

He still won't squat to eat, he will eat either standing up or I'll prop his dish up on something to help him out, and he's still not interested in wrestling with the baby in the house like he used to. He is otherwise doing well, going up stairs no problem, etc.

I've seen Adequan thrown around here for a lot of the arthritic kitties and was just wondering when/if I should start considering getting him some. He's about to be 12 next month and weighs 11 lbs. Is Adequan more for severe cases?

Does it require a prescription? And is there a specific kind for cats or is Adequan just Adequan no matter what? I see it online for horses...

There's no cat one... You would need the dog one. Yes you need a perscription.

Adequan is amazing

I started my boys (20&21) at 15&16

We have gradually increased the frequency as they aged. I shoot in the scruff. No reaction just more jumping :)
I just make sure there r no fluids given there it would dilute it.

If you get the vial from your vet or online pharmacy

The 1 ml syringe and 29 terumo needles you can get at CalVey Supply with no script.

Adequan is used off label for cats they label for dogs n horses
The only difference is the dog has preservatives
So if your not going to use it fast you may want the dog.
I have always used horse but I use it fast and my vet sees mainly horses

Also I have had vets want to charge 140$ a vile
It should be 70/80$
Out here if the vet gives the shot it is 50$
Crazy !

Thank you for all the info! I see Valleyvet sells one bottle for about $65. How long does a bottle typically last?
I have some old U-40 29g insulin syringes, are those acceptable to use or no? I've seen mixed opinions on insulin syringes for Adequan in general.

When I emailed my vet my cat's spreadsheet for the week over I mentioned that I wanted to know what she thought about getting my civvie a prescription for it so we'll see what she thinks. :D
