When is it time?

I haven't been around here for a long time. We decided to do our own thing as testing wasn't good for Mo. Since we stopped testing he became more cuddly and loving. It was like we got our old boy back! We would do curves every 2 weeks at home and increase the insulin accordingly. I know everyone here disagrees with me on this but it has been better for him mentally and for us, which is why i blocked people from being able to view our spreadsheet. The backlash was just getting too much. But, as you would expect, he has been going down hill. He started pooping outside the litter box and now he's wetting himself while he sleeps. He has a vet appointment today in a few hours - the first appointment in a couple of months. He's still happy and cuddly and eating well, but we are worried that it might just be time to let him go. He is above 11 units of insulin with his latest curve between 275 and 349. We can't afford to do the acromegaly test and to be honest we aren't sure that's going to help us moving forward if he does have acro or not. He's walking around confused, starting blankly at walls. The other day, someone found him "playing" in the middle of the road that they had to move him off the street. We didn't even know he was out there!

Is it time to put him to sleep?
 
Not everyone will automatically disagree with you. What you just wrote took real courage.
I'll assume that you made every effort and testing Mo made him more than miserable. I've been more than fortunate to have had two diabetics that were fairly calm about the whole thing but I've seen too many people here in tears because it just isn't working.
Marco was an abused cat who cannot be pilled, it provokes a response in him that looks like nothing I've ever seen. Noah had been out of the house maybe five times in his life, I was sure one day he'd die in the car. There are cats that are loved but just cannot be cared for and it's no ones fault.
My short term advice would be to keep Mo indoors, away from stairs if possible and make absolutely sure he's not in physical pain. If his mental outlook doesn't change and you're certain there will never be improvement then the time may have come. I'm far away from you in distance but have stood exactly where you are now too many times. I'm so sorry Katy and Tim, the final choice is between the three of you.
If pain becomes an issue I can tell you more but that's for later. Safe journey

I've used transdermal BUPE many times. For a cat that's had enough poking the worst part of their day is a little ear tickle. It's a God send.
 
No regrets and no guilt Katy and Tim. You'll see Mo again one day.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure you made the best decision for him and he is appreciating your love and strength from the bridge *virtual hugs*
