I posted last week about Milo who has been OTJ for 5 years but was up to 477 last Saturday (Thanksgiving weekend). He went to the vet last Monday and got an antibiotic shot and has been going down since then. Vet thought possible flea bites and gave flea treatment.

In the past week of doing readings he has steadily gone down. Yesterday he was at 158 about 2.5 hours after eating. When is the best time to get a good reading. I am using the freestyle light meter which I have used for a long time. I am encouraged by his going down and hope he keeps going down so we don't have to start insulin again, but know that could be a possibility if numbers go up again. The vet wanted me to track for a couple of weeks before deciding what route to follow next. He is feeling much better.

He eats fancy feast classic low carb foods only.

Thanks for any advice on when to take the reading.

Sometimes I take Dulce's right before feeding and some time about 6 hours after eating. One time I got a 100 before feeding and then tested about 6 hours when it was 72

Saoirse has just gone OTJ. I've been a bit remiss about monitoring her because we've just moved house. I've been doing random spot checks and they've all been fine, but I do want to keep an eye on her BG if she fasts for too long (she has pancreatitis and sometimes it's a bit of a challenge to get her to eat frequently enough). Historically, Saoirse's BG spiked if she fasted too long, so I want to keep an eye on that, and also on her BG first thing in the morning (AMPS readings were often quite high compared to the rest of the day). I also want to do spot checks on her BG before and shortly after eating to ensure that her pancreas is responding properly to incoming food (4.4% carbs or less). For example, Today, I checked her just before feeding and then about 1 3/4 hrs later to make sure her BG levelled out OK after the meal (5.4/97 before eating, 5.3/95 after - nice 'n' even).

Just like before Dusty went OTJ, I test in the morning before his first meal. I'm currently only testing once every two weeks.

I purposely take readings at different times throughout the boys' days. I don't want to miss something amiss just because it wasn't showing up during the time of day I'm testing.
