Wanted to share this information with the group. It may have been shared here previously. I'm not sure. I accidentally discovered it.

Since my boy got sick, he has wanted to be outside, in the sun, on the grass. I didn't truly understand what he was doing as he has always been an indoor cat. We went outside daily. While I still don't fully understand, he was jaundice so the sun was helping. He would also sneak a piece of grass here or there when I wasn't looking. I say sneak because I know people use poison on their lawns around me and i don't let him chewy on anything outside. I know that poison doesn't just stay on their lawns.

I have bought him grass at petsmart, but because of the way it is started, it dies quickly. It is $9 too. I stopped buying them because of this.

Over Christmas, I was in Meijer, a Midwest grocery chain. They had organic wheat grass. I pulled it out to see if it contained soil, instead if a seed mat, and it did. I purchased it. Rinsed it when I got home and put it down for him. He was thrilled.

Fast forward to today. I noticed the night before last that he had loose stool. I did some research and it can be used to relieve constipation in cats.

I wanted to share this with the forum because I know a lot of cats struggle with this issue and it seemed to work fairly quickly on my cat who truly didn't need the help.

This is a natural way to help them too. It is what they do in the wild too.

Make sure to do your own research regarding the use of this. It is an excellent alternative to meds, but don't do so blindly.

My (indoor) girl also seems to eat grass to help her poop. She lets me know that she wants/needs grass by sitting by the back door and just staring at it... I then offer her a variety of grasses picked from the garden. She's very selective, and seems to choose exactly the blades of grass that she needs. ...And then I see them in her poop... :cat:

Hmm, Snickers has constipation issues. I'm also in the Midwest and surrounded by Meijer. Maybe I'll try this with her.

Heads up. I rinsed mine first. I love Meijer. If my basil I bring in from my garden doesn't make it through the winter, they have amazing fresh basil that will last until spring in a cup of water. Another reason I knew the wheat grass would last longer than the grass from petsmart. They are making a killing on that grass and it doesn't last more than a week for a consumer. Goofy.

My female recently had a bit of constipation issues. She was protesting the wet food again and was probably a bit dehydrated. I got her to eat a blade last night (she doesn't love it like her brother and I've had to put it up out of his reach) and she is good today. I wouldn't let her gnaw on it for long until you know if it will work for Snickers, how quickly it responds for her, or if she has any adverse reaction to it. I've been shocked by this grass though. Excited to hear how she likes it and if it helps, if you end up getting it.

Cool. All good advice. I'll see if I can get to Meijer this weekend. :)

Hey! I’m new here. I have two cats, one with diabetes. I’m noticing less poop in their litter box but haven’t caught one in the but I think at least one of them is constipated. I don’t think they are dehydrated as I’m adding a considerable amount of water to their food each time.

Anyway, I saw a box of wheatgrass at Grocery Outlet for $2 and picked it up. My diabetic cat loves it. I was mostly searching to see if there were any carb considerations but figured it could be helpful for their regularity. I appreciate this post.

Rupert numbers have been too low for me to shoot the last 24 hours. Not as low as I’d like but pretty good. He’s had free access to the grass for the last 24 hours too. I’m not suggesting it’s helping his numbers but happy they didn’t go up. Here’s hoping for 2 fresh poops tomorrow morning like yesterday .
Info is on my spreadsheet sheet if you’re interested

Leroy is a cow in disguise:D He loves eating cat grass. He'll eat until he throws up and keep eating:facepalm: I have to hand feed him each piece of grass and limit him to 5 or so pieces at a time.

I grow my own cat grass from seed. I buy a seed packet from the garden center. I buy this brand but here are others such as Burpee. I use potting soil that doesn't contain any fertilizers or additives and plant a few seeds at a time.
