I've been using u-40s and my friend gave me some.of the other kind..i wanna make sure I still give him the proper dosage, thanks.

If you are using U40 insulin, and use U100 syringes, there is a conversion factor. Every half unit tick mark on a U100 syringe is 0.2 units of U40 insulin. So for instance, if you want to draw up 1.0 unit of U40 insulin on a U100 syringe, you need to draw up to the 2.5 mark on the U100 syringe. So divide the units on the U100 syringe by 2.5 to get the equal units of U40 insulin. Does that make sense or did I just totally ramble too much? I'm sure maybe someone else has an easier explanation...

I used the U100 syringes with U40 Prozinc to be able to micro dose since you can dose in 0.2 increments easily that way.

Hi,

Vetsulin is a U40 insulin. That means that there are 40 units of insulin per ml. A U40 syringe is specifically designed to measure U40 insulin.
U100 syringes are designed for U100 insulins, ie, those that have 100 units of insulin per ml (Lantus, Levemir, Hypurin bovine PZI).

An insulin with 100 units per ml is 2.5 times as strong as an insulin that has 40 units per ml. In order to use U40 insulin in U100 syringes you'll need to use a conversion chart, which is here:

If you have any questions at all, please do ask.

Yes..I think that makes sense, thanks. So how much is a micro dose usually? Think I might be headed there...

When I used U40 Prozinc, I dosed in 0.2 unit increments with the U100 syringes. Sometimes Bud would only get 0.2 units which is dosed at the half unit mark on a U100 syringe. So if you need to micro dose less than 0.2 units, I know some people here have some techniques like counting drops or using calipers that they could explain far better than I can.
