Just curious---what is the correct protocal for testing before you shoot?

I have been feeding, waiting 30 minutes, testing and then shooting. Is this correct? If I test right after eating---how many points would you assume a Low carb can of FF would increase the BG---100 points or is this a situation of ECID?

I just want to be consistent when posting on the spreadsheet.

Thanks!

Test, feed, shoot in that order. If you feed first the bg you get will be higher from the food.

It is suggested that you not feed for 2 hours prior to your PS test so that you get a true bg reading. Then feed and make sure they eat enough, then shoot.

That's great. By waiting 30 minutes, you're also making sure that he keeps his breakfast down.

Feed, test, shoot or test, feed, shoot ? Either one is fine, but the rule is "be consistent". Make sure you always do it the same way ... as long as you test before you shoot! ;-)

Sorry but I have to dissagree.

If you feed before you test and then get a questionable shooting number you have lost the option to wait 30 minutes and test again to make sure you have a rising number because the food will be spiking the bg's.

I agree with Robin. You can test and feed and then wait a few minutes to shoot to be sure that they are keeping down the breakfast, if that is something you are worried about - if you sure have a shootable number. But you want a test that is not influenced by any potential food spike and you want to be able to test again if need to if the number is too low to shoot - before you feed. A small treat during that potential waiting time is fine - just not a meal.
