I just gave Lilly her evening shot of Lantus 1 unit and she was not acting right so I got out the gravied FF. She would not eat it. I checked her BG it was 86. What should it be. ?
86 is not a scary number but it is pretty low for early in the cycle. I wouldn't give her any high carb yet. I would continue to test. If she gets down to the 40s, you will need to intervene.
How long ago did she have the 1 unit of Lantus? Do you have any other numbers from today? And how much has she eaten today?
The number 86 on its own is not too low. However, if this is early in the cycle you may need to keep an eye on her for several hours as it could drop into dangerous territory. Just to be sure, do you have some karo syrup and lots of test strips?
I am not testing her at home the vet told me not to. I just did because she seemed to be acting funny. So what do I do now? She had the shot at 8. Ate a little after that, she is not a big eater.
She seems fine and has just ate a little. I put the kitten I have in a room for bit as she can be a bit disruptive and keeps her from eating. So maybe things will calm down a bit.

Terri,
I can't imagine why your vet would tell you not to test her at home. I can understand them not telling people it is an option, and many vets don't. What I hope you can see from tonight is that your vet is just plain wrong on this. Please, test her as often as you want to. Test her at least before even thinking about giving her a shot. You don't have to let your vet know you are doing it. You can tell the vet, if they ask, that you absolutely are not testing at home.
It's about the safety of YOUR kitty. They can't tell you that you can or can't do anything. You pay them. You're the customer. If they don't like that relationship, tough luck. There are other vets in the world.
If you don't know what her BG was before you gave her the shot tonight, then you have no idea how much the 1u made her drop. You just know she dropped to "green" numbers. So you wouldn't know if it is too much the next time you give her insulin, or any time you give her insulin.
Please, your dear kittie's life and health depend on you being able to manage her condition to the best of your ability. Don't put all of that at risk because your vet gave you stupid advice.
