I was just wondering what brands/flavors of high carb food others tend to keep on hand in the event of a low. We are having an issue with our cat dropping points very suddenly and we are looking for a way to slow her drops without spiking the numbers. We are also looking to avoid using glucose gel or dry food when she drops into the hypo range since they A) seem to keep the numbers high for way too long and B) the dry food takes too long to get into her system. She tends to prefer pates over chunks but I just want to know what other people keep around and use.

Thanks!

Have a look at this food chart and pick some foods that are meduim carb 11-15 carbs and high carb 16-24 and over carb.
Fancy feast has a gravy lovers range that is higher carb.
I used honey as well if the numbers dropped too low. Just a drop or two should be enough to start with. Honey will only keep the BGs up higher for 1 and a half hours. Karo is another option.

I think I gave this to you before on another one of your posts :cat:
Med and High Carb food and have honey in your house

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Beef Feast in Gravy 20% High Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Chicken Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Turkey Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Chicken and Beef in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Good idea to mark the cans with magic marker how many carbs

Or any on the food chart. Doesn't have to be Fancy Feast just an example about the med and high carb foods

10% and under is low carb
11% -15 is medium carbs.

16- 24 is high carb.

I myself just received from Chewy, Suzanne and I were discussing the ingredients, she said they seemed to be just fine since they only had 2 % carbs, the container has ingredients I do not remember mentioning, I took a picture of the back label hope you can read it, to make sure they are safe for Corky, your input would be great, the name of the treats are FF APPETIZERS, Light Meat Tuna with scallop topper in delicate broth

Dry food typically doesn't take too long to get into the system, but it does take a long time to work it's way out again. I'm not recommending dry, just commenting.

I used some of the Weruva lines. My girl was allergic to wheat, so none of the Fancy Feast were good for her. The Weruva tend to use potato for carbs. The Cats in the Kitchen pouches range from medium to a lowish high carb. Grandma's Chicken Soup can was over 20%. When she went below 40, that was an automatic drop of syrup on top of her food.

Cats differ on how carb sensitive they are. And may need different carbs to give a boost at different times of the cycle. When you have to give extra carbs, write down how much (quantity), carb% and time on the Remarks section of the spreadsheet. Pretty soon it'll be obvious what is the sweet spot for how much of what carbs to give your cat. Almost all of us overdo it at first, then dial back the amounts of carbs or food given.
