What explains 2 different numbers from same blood

Did a routine BG test on Charlie. Questioned the first number and immediately did a 2nd test from the same blood (new strip, of course).
Numbers were: 259, then 288 only a second later.
What explains that difference? Just really curious.

I believe there is a 20% variance on the meter readers. So it's normal to see two different readings even done straight after one another and from the same blood spot.
You're right to do a double check though if you think the number is too high or too lower as it could be a dodgy strip. But if the numbers are within the realm of 20% then that's pretty much your reading :)
