What do you guys think? Am I being paranoid?

Hi guys. Basil is on day 2 of no insulin, and this morning he came into the bathroom, jumped up on the counter, and tried to drink from the tap as I brushed my teeth. He hasn't done that since the day he was diagnosed and put on insulin, and it made me a bit worried.

Yesterday his numbers seemed ok, and I tried leaving the frozen food and when I came home both bowls were clean. :)

He seems fine, but I'm just afraid I'm not seeing something.

Any thoughts?

Check his BG. You still need to check him daily, anyway.

But honestly, some cats just like dripping tap water - it's fun.

Dear Leanne, and, of course, you too, still not so sweet Basil,

I don't think you're not seeing something. Although you might be looking for something that isn't there... (Does that sound like something Sensei would have said to Grasshopper in that old Kung Fu TV show?)

Please remember that no matter what, Leanne, Basil is still a cat. Your cat. He may have just been curious about you brushing your teeth or watching water flow...

When in doubt, test him.

Sometimes when we've been on extreme worry overload, it takes a little while to calm down and relax... I think you've both come a truly remarkable distance in a very short amount of time! Promise me something, okay, Leanne? Sometime over the weekend, or when you have a day off, try to remember Basil before he was diagnosed and play with him or whatever you both liked doing together. It just might do you both some good...

Love and relaxing and continuing OTJ hugs for you both,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

It may be nothing. Basil may have just discovered that he likes drinking out of the faucet. On of my civies, Mischief, has learned that when I get out of the shower if she presses the lever down in the tub, water will come out of the faucet for her to drink. This is her morning routine. After she does this, I turn on the tub faucet a little bit and she drinks until she has had enough.

Leann,

As others have said, when in doubt test, but I can tell you that my Maxwell has been OTJ for 6 months now, and to this day when we turn on the water in the bathroom sink he is up there trying to get a drink or just play in the running water. Now he has a full bowl sitting right beside the sink which he barely touches, but running water that is a whole different ball of wax.

But I do think that once we have been scared to death about one of our fur babies health we do tend to start over stress on everything they do or don't do. We need to remember that they are afterall still cats. Those wonderful unpredictable creatures that we fell head over heels in love with because they were just that unpredictable. Those wondeful creatures that one day think the box in the corner is the best toy in the world only to the very next day avoid the same box like it is going to eat them.

Try to relax, if concerned test, if the numbers are still good then just chalk it up to cat behavior.

Thanks guys. I can't test him til later today when i get home from work, but I left him a bit of food to eat. He has always been a sink boy, but in the month leading up to his diagnosis, he became very vocal and almost angry if the water tap wasn't dripping 24/7. That stopped the minute he got on insulin.
