Hi there,

I recently switched both of my cats to wet food only which means they no longer consume the Iams Indoor Hairball/Weight control food they have lived off of for 7+ years. My cat that does not have diabetes threw up a massive (5 inch long) hairball yesterday and I have never seen that before! My concern is that changing to wet food only is not going to help her with the hairball situation.

Do you have any suggestions for how to help with that. It looked very uncomfortable watching her hack that up! Since it is summer, the cats are shedding like crazy. Also, my cat that threw it up, she often grooms by diabetic kitty with the long hair...so she's taking down twice the amount of hair! I am trying to brush them both more often but just curious if there is something else that I should be doing. Thanks.

One of the ingredients in OTC hairball remedies is petroleum jelly. A small amount may be offered on a finger.

Lots of brushing. I also put a dab of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) on my long hair cats paw every other day. He licks it off and it seems to help.

Have you tried the FURMINATOR? it is a de-shedding brush. Works great!! My cat is not super thrilled with daily brushings at all....but at least with this amazing brush I am able to get 10x more hair off of him before his patience runs out than with any other brush I have tried. it is a little pricy though...but worth it

perhaps another member can recommend a "generic" version.

good luck
