I don't post very often since Phoenix has been doing great. The summer is also a busy time for me with yard work and other chores.
The problem I am having is Phoenix's BG going too low for me to feel comfortable leaving him alone. I live in a rural area. I need to take care of some paperwork at a bank in Dallas. This is a 3 hour round trip and that is without traffic. I also need to take a urine sample to Phoenix's vet. That is another 3 hour round trip without traffic.
Phoenix takes insulin for high BG but his depot has built up to where he goes low without honey and carbs. I hate to lower his insulin dose unless he starts falling too low every night. He also can fall from 300 to 50 in a little over an hour.
I know to give him honey and carbs before I leave the house. This works for short trips. What do all of you do that work all day to handle low numbers? I am retired and live alone. I don't have anyone to help when I am not home. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you
