What do to when you give a fur shot?

I am pretty sure I just gave Norton a fur shot. He is getting such a small amount of Lantus (1 unit), he really isn't wet, but when I pet him looking for wetness, I could really smell the insulin. Do I give him another shot? Or just wait until his next dose so I don't give him too much in case some really went in?

Thanks for the quick response (assuming anyone else is up this early on a Saturday...)

hi Shari!

I'm new around here, but from the reading I've done, I don't think we shoot again. Monitor as normal and shoot his regular dose at Nortons next shot.

Hopefully one of the experienced members will be around soon for you...........

Got it, thanks. He licked his fur before I could wipe him off; is there any danger in him ingesting Lantus? He seems fine.

Thanks!

Hi Shari!

Insulin isn't absorbed through the digestive system, so licking a tiny amount off the fur shouldn't cause any harm. If you're feeling nervous about it, you can get a couple extra tests in to ensure his numbers aren't being affected.

The digestive system breaks it down - that is why human diabetics can't take their insulin orally.
