Okay, I am beyond frustrated and at a complete loss. It has been over a year since Scout was diagnosed and I still cannot get him regulated. I feel like I am failing because I have tried everything and don't know where to go from here. His numbers have always been all over the place and I can't figure it out.
Recently, the vet said to do 3 units every 12 hours, but sometimes his numbers are so low I have to adjust. Sometimes his numbers are so high I feel like I should shoot more, but I work over an hour away and I'm gone for up to 10 hours at a time so I don't feel comfortable shooting more than 3 units. (I just ordered a couple pet cameras so I can start keeping an eye on him while I'm away).
This last week I bought an automatic feeder that gives him a small handful of freeze-dried chicken or beef at 11:30 AM and 4 PM. (His shoot times are 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM - Meals are 1 1/2 cans (3 ounce) Fancy Feast). It hasn't made a difference except scaring the crap out of Scout the first few times it released the food.
Today was my last straw. 155 at +6 and over 500 PMPS? Is he bouncing? Should I skip the next couple shots and start fresh? Do I shoot more than 3 units? What is recommended? Should I ask to switch insulin?
There is no human food accessible to him while I'm gone at work so I know he isn't sneaking bad treats.
Other info:
Moderate exercise.
Drinks distilled water.
He is indoors only.
No other pets in the house.
Poop is normal.
No ketones.
Last dental was about a year ago (need to schedule another soon).
He is acting completely normal.
Alphatrak 2 meter has been tested and battery replaced.
I tried the sliding scale and it didn't work.
Someone please tell me what to do! Help!
