I'm sad to report that my little guy Leo, OTJ as of last June, will be starting the dance again this evening after Mama gets home from work.
Since June I'd been testing him off and on just to be sure we were on the right track-always 40s-60s, occasionally 70s during very hot weather or times of stress. I tested him the Sunday evening and he was at 110-roughly double his normal values. Last night, he read 185-there was no doubt in my mind what was going on. He's had low-carb wet food since diagnosis, hadn't been into anything he shouldn't have been into, and the result was repeatable across tests. Early this morning his reading was 300. So, dear BF is making the journey through the snowstorm to pick up a vial of PZ-our vet still stocks it, so at least we don't have to switch from what we know. Poor little guy-he doesn't act like he's feeling poorly at all. But, if he stayed at that level for any length of time, he surely would. Maybe he's one of those kitties that just needs some occasional "help"-but to be honest, if it means we're still together and my sweet boy is happy and healthy, I would definitely be ok with giving injections the rest of his life.
At least this time I'm not so scared. We can do this...

We're lucky in that we have a very good vet that treats Leo himself...and not just a condition.
