Hi ALL! Seems like we have been gone forever. All our girls events are over for the year, school is over and back from our vacation. WHew!!! So glad summer is here!

Copper has been doing ok over the last two months. Some days really good (not too much green) and some not so good. I still have not figured him out yet and we really have been staying at the consisitant dose. Can't really go up because when i do he goes low and then i have to shoot lower or he goes bouncy bounce. So if i just stay consistant at about he same dosage he does ok. I figured something out, that when i give him a "true" subq shot and not in the fat, he goes lower faster. If i feel a bubble under the skin then he drops fast by +4. If i don't feel the bubble he absorbs slower and his ps is usually lower, unless that is If i don't have a bounce. I've given up the idea he will ever get over this FD and it will always be a part of our lives. That is sort of depressing, but something i've accepted. His nuero is a little better and doesn't seem to walk on his hocks as much. Still he has muscle atrophy and don't think it will ever come back. Very sad  But, on a good note, he doesn't seem to let any of this stop him. When the weather is nice and he is allowed outside, he still sits under his favorite tree and watches everything. He chases the chipmunks and squirrels just about everyday. Every now and then he does catch a chipmunk or birdie when i'm not watching. He is a mighty hunger and his appetite never seems to wane. Amazing. He is still a 16lbs and holding. Sweet as ever and such a lover boy!

As for vacation, it was a challenge for me. We drove 12hrs(should of taken only 8hrs) in a minivan with another cat, 2 young kids and an aging dog. We had to stop every 2hrs to let me out to stretch my joints(bad arthritis) and my dog's, let the kids and dog pee and get their energy out . I had to give the insulin shot and test in a car, in the dark with minimal light. Very interesting. But it worked. Copper did a great job traveling and crawled in his little snuggle hut and didn't move the whole trip unless i was feeding him every 4hrs. That was very interesting too! I was exhausted, but went really well despite all the stopping, etc. Copper adjusted very well to the vacation rental house and finally came out of hiding after 2days. His BG were not too bad.

Now that we are home, i'm so happy to just be doing "NOTHING" everyday! YEAH!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone again. Seems like so many newbie's. I will try and catch up on some of the ones i know.

God Bless everyone!

You get a "Greatest MOM" award, Lori! Way to go, taking care of everybody on an extended car ride. I remember the ONE year we went to Doug's dad's family reunion out in Hayesville - SEVEN HOUR drive (not counting stops). No pets, but 3 kids in the backseat who couldn't stop touching each other!!!! Like I said, the ONE year ;-)

Glad y'all got to go and spend some away time together. But, I know it's always nice to get home, too. Glad you're back; I missed you!

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

Hi Lori,
It's good to hear from you! Glad the vacation went well, and that Copper was good on the ride, and didn't freak out too much from the new surroundings. Did you get to spend time walking the beach? See any turtle nests?

I've given up the idea he will ever get over this FD and it will always be a part of our lives. That is sort of depressing, but something i've accepted. His nuero is a little better and doesn't seem to walk on his hocks as much. Still he has muscle atrophy and don't think it will ever come back.

Please, don't ever give up! It took Bob months after he was off insulin for him to regain strength in his back legs enough to jump on the bed. I'm not ready to give up on Copper's eventual remission.

I need to work on this. I don't think I'll feel a bubble, but I bet I'm at too much angle and am not shooting subq. I thought the objective was under the skin as opposed to in the muscle - I didn't know the fat could have an effect. I'm going to do the "tent" thing over the shoulders the next few days with our dose decrease and see if the combination works.

Hey Carl,

Yeah we got to walk the beaches and kayak in the sound everyday. The girls still played on the surf, ankle high, even though HUGE riptide. I stood next to them just in case. It was a little windy do to the TS off the coast for the week. The day we left Beryl came inland. We missed it, thank goodness. Did you all have any damage on the beaches from Beryl?

We saw LOTS of turtle nests. None hatching though. Did see a dead shark on the surf and lots of skate eggs. My doggie had a lot of trouble walking on the beach due to a sore foot, so didn't get to enjoy it with her too much. Very sad. She is getting so old. She loved the sand and rolling in it. Saw some man-o-war the last couple of days. Didn't matter because we were going in the waters with the riptide.

THanks for thinking of us all!

Hi Lori -

Did you make it to Canadian Hole? That was the place my dog Kirby liked to swim best! Sounds like a bit of a crazy ride, but a fabulous time once you got there! Welcome home and welcome back!

Grayson started Lev last week, along w/ Denise & Shakespeare... pop over when you get a chance (and we'll be back & forth!).

Glad you missed Beryl. If it hadn't been for Carl's post, I wouldn't have even known about it - not much "tropical update" in the headline news in AZ! Go figure!

Hope you have a wonderful summer (now that you can breathe!!!) :-D

Lori,
The beach took a beating and we lost of couple of turtle nests, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been. I'm glad you got away before Beryl got there.

Carl
