Got a new batch of test strips and without thinking put them in with last few remaining in original vial that cake with Alphatrek.

That original number was 14.
New vials the number is 08.

Would it be safest for readings to change number to average 11? His sugar is still running high but last night when it registered 647 (on the 08 setting) I nearly had a stroke. Changed back to 14 and it was down the 400s which has been his high range since diagnosis. (Still think he’s going to have to get something other than Vetsulin :().

I am so stupid - I cannot believe I did that

No, it doesn't work like that. I don't think you can just split the difference. :D

I would change it to 08 since that is the code for the majority of the strips. Approximately how many strips would you say were left of the older ones? If you get numbers that are so crazy that you are pretty sure they cannot be correct, you could retest. I think I would be more concerned with low numbers than high though. 600s or 400s are both too high - it's safe to give the shot - not really a need to waste another strip. On the other hand, if it was a low number where there could be risk involved, it's worth confirming.

I am not familiar with the Alpha track strips. Do they have a lot number on each strip? That would tell you which strip came from each batch.

No, they do not.

UPDATED TO ADD:
They have little lines like a bar code. All of the ones I have right now are for the same code, so I could not compare to see if the lines look any different for strips from vials with different codes. @Tasia could you check yours to see if those little lines look the same on them all?

How much would it cost to just throw them all out and start over with new strips? Maybe not much, if you go with ReLion :-)

I did try that but I'm going to try it again with two pair of readers, my prescription glasses, a flashlight, and a magnifier. :bookworm:o_O:woot:

There has to be something somehow that's different.

I got these through a diabetic supply shop -- for AlphaTrek the strips are stupid ridiculous -- $44 minimum. Not an option :(
