Just checked readings and got a high number so thought it might be a bad strip so to be sure I checked again pricking the other ear It was 100 points lower to be very sure I checked a different place on the orginal ear and got a number off the first high reading. Can the reading be different in each ear?

Calculate the following:

0.8 * the high number
1.2 * the low number

If (1.2 * the low number) is higher than (0.8 * the high number), the numbers may be considered the same due to +/- 20% variability in the meters.

The original number in the right ear was 510. Went to the left ear it was 421 2 minutes later. To double check tried a different spot on the right ear and it was 508. Just seemed weird that the readings in the right ear were higher than the left ear. What do you mean calculate...not the brightest crayon in the box here you will have to spell it out for me. lol

Exactly!

Each test actually represents a range of possible values from 20% lower to 20% higher.
If the ranges overlap, the tests are essentially the same.

Ex.
421 x 1.2 = 505.2
510 x 0.8 = 408.0

The number ranges overlap, so they may be considered the same - higher than you want.
