weighing my FD cat

I think my Angus has put on a bit of weight since the start of treatment but could it be the fact that he's not peeing as much and not just starving ? I was wondering if anyone has also noticed the same in their cats ?
Does anyone weigh their cat regularly ? Or just go by general body condition. I happy to see all the positive changes in him but gaining more weight is a concern .

When a cat's glucose levels are getting under control, their body can start processing the nutrients from their food better. So that is what appears to be happening with Angus. You are getting some great numbers.

thanks ! and yes he seems to be leveling out compared to the first week and last week too. I can see several positive changes but I just dont want him to gain too much weight /fat ...he's always been the chubby one in the family !

I had a cat scale already for a cat that gained weight after becoming hypothyroid, so I also used it for Methos because keeping weight on him has always been a struggle even before diabetes—(he’s size wise between a Siberian and Maine Coon —his main DNA contributors—so 12.5 # is thin). So I weigh him daily but I doubt that’s necessary.

some people use their human scale while holding cat and then not holding cat but this obviously can be ounces off. Others buy a baby scale.

This is the one I have but I don’t recall where I bought it : https://sandiegoscale.com/products/...rsc0odRJLpc1BPWHDbGC4JWXstkcct2ndgkIqo4&gQT=1

if you google cat scale there are many choices in the $30-50 range

The weight gain was a mild concern because I just wasn't sure if it was the fact that he's not peeing as much or hopfully regaing some muscle mass. Its not like he was overly skinny. just had dropped from over 9kg to a littls over 7kg very rapidly. The positive things I notice besides weight are no more dandruff, coat more glossy, plantigrade stance less so and generally more happy, bright and more like his old self !
Thanks for your comments ! I was visualizing a Siberian Tiger crossed with a Maine Coon , wooo !!

From all his changes it sounds like he’s making great progress and his weight gain may be gaining back what he needs. Good luck with your sweet boy

ps—Siberian cat not Siberian tiger …although my last generation of cats (Erik and Christine) were likely cat x wild cat hybrid discards.

Yes. I also weight their canned food and record the number of pieces of Dr Elsey's clean protein I feed. I adjust the amount of food as required so they maintain their desired weight. I give the Dr Elsey's after they finish their canned and the amount varies by cat and is between 4 and 12 pieces.
