Mornin kids:
As of this very minute, I am swearin’ by the 4am snack. Our amps today was 194.
Maybe it has nothin’ to do with it, but if we keep getting nice amps like this, it’s worth opening the chicken snack container at 4. ~O)

Have a great day everyone! We’ll check in later.

Very encouraging! See why we need you to post Donna?

Harley used to have higher AMPS's when I fed him at maybe 9-10 pm. Once I started feeding them at midnight, I think his AMPS went lower because he could graze all night.

Hi kids:
I think I have pretty good vet news. I had a real nice talk with the vet my Mom uses. Like I said before, he’s about 40 minutes from me but he says they have cat clients that come from farther away than me, and he doesn’t feel the extra 30 mins in the car is going to cause that much more stress than 10 minutes, they are going to a vet and they will get stressed.

His practice uses ProZync insulin. He actually thought our numbers were pretty good as they are, has attended some recent seminars on FD and says it is a very hot topic in the vet community, and basically has the same dosing philosophy as we do. He might even be a tad more conservative. I had to pinch myself.

He also asked if we test, and then kind of laughed and said we were way ahead of any of their current diabetic clients.

Dental costs were in line. They use Ampisillin (sp?) for antibiotics, and flavored Tramadol (sp?) in a syringe for the mouth for pain for 3 days after the procedure. He said it makes the cats drool a bit, but has worked well. (I told him we have old towels, that didn’t scare me) They did used to use Metacam without problems previously, but since all the talk about cats having problems, and the FDA warning, they use the Tramadol for pain.

He offered to do a check up the same day as the dental, but I think we are going to take both cats in one day to meet him and have a check up (Alby needs one too) and then I will schedule the dental for Asher. If Alby needs one too, which he prob does, he’ll be next in line.

So there’s my report. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I am all ears.

Hurrah! This sounds great. :thumbup

Will be nice to work with a vet that supports hometesting and is up to date on dosing. Bet you will feel better about the dental now too. (You might pm Kris and Motska, Donna. She recently went through a dental.)

Good news on all fronts! The vet sounds great and what a nice AMPS for Asher. Don't want to jinx, but you've been seeing some really nice #'s lately. Woohoo! I swear by the late night snack too. I usually give Max a little something around 3:30am/4am. I started doing it cause, even with a little extra food left out at night, Max would be starving by morning and a bear to test. He would be like, "no test, feed, feed!" Anyway, he was easier to test/less hungry with the overnight snack and I noticed that his AMPS's seemed better too. I've kept doing it.

This sounds like good news about the vet.
Seems right on board with clients hometesting and dosing and familiar with ProZinc.
Sure seems like a much better fit for you and Asher.
I would feel much better about entrusting Asher with this vet for the dental.
Asher is having a good day today too. :-D
