Hey.
My Cleo cat was diagnosed in Decemeber 2011. Her BG at that point was 630mg/dL! She really wasn't ever properly regulated - a few months after diagnosis she was still showing numbers in the 400s and 500s. All the vet was advising was to raise the dosage of insulin...
However, after a terrifying hypo episode which made us realise the importance of home testing, the dosage started coming down, and the numbers stabilising. But this was a good 9 months after diagnosis, 9 months of numbers wildly varying all over the place.
Cleo is now not on insulin (I hesitate to say 'off the juice' or 'in remission', as her numbers are still slightly high, but not high enough for me to comfortably dose with Caninsulin.) Cleo is in the best condition I have seen her in in a long time. Her coat is all sleek and fluffy. For 8 months after diagnosis the patches of fur the vet had shaved on her leg and chest had not grown back - now she has a rather lion-like ruff where for months her chest was bald. And from a skinny, terribly sick looking kitty with visible ribs at one point, she's actually now starting to look just that tiny bit chubby when she sits in certain positions. Cleo didn't purr for months. This really worried me. Now she is sat on my lap vibrating like a little motor.
What I'm trying to say is it's not too late; you said in your other thread that you feel "Gobi has been so unregulated for so long he has a very small chance of doing a comeback". It's not too late; don't think that because you haven't got there yet and your numbers are still all over the place that it won't happen at all. And you have the benefit of being on lantus, which is an excellent insulin. And the fantastic, invaluable support of everyone here.
Please don't lose hope.
Best of luck, and do continue to post.
