We lost Tipper this morning

Tipper passed early this morning, apparently from heart failure. It was very quick and my husband was with her at the time. He said she coughed, got out of her bed and collapsed. He roused me out of bed but she was gone by the time I got downstairs. We knew she had heart issues and I guess the stress of the HL, getting a tube on Monday, and everything else, was just too much for her.

From the moment she jumped into my arms as a tiny, hungry kitten in July of 1993, Tipper was a source of joy and amusement. Easily the smartest cat we've ever owned, Tipper learned tricks from all the other cats, as well as coming up with special tricks of her own. She never met a door that might not open if she pulled on it, she never saw a pair of glasses without at least thinking of snatching them off the owner's nose. Even as her health failed the last few months, she was remarkably cheerful and always ready to snuggle. We did a lot of that the last week. Her favorite place was in someone's lap -- she 's taken over my sister's lap in this photo. In a lap, collecting pets ... that's the life Tipper wanted and, by and large, it's the life she led with us for over 18 years. We'll miss her, but we're so glad we found her in the ditch all those years ago.

I'm also so glad to have found this message board several years ago when Tipper was first diagnosed with diabetes and would like to express my sincere thanks to all who offered advice and support at that time and more recently, and especially to those who founded and maintain this site. It is a treasure. Without it, I'm sure we would have lost Tipper in 2006. Y'all pointed me to the information we needed and gave me insight into how to talk to Tipper's vet and, as a result, we enjoyed her company for 5 more good years. That's quite a gift.

Best wishes to all of you and your fur babies. Thank you for being there when we've needed you. Words can't express what this community has done for us.

Sherry & (Angel) Tipper

I give you this one thought to keep:
I am with you still; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not think of me as gone-
I am with you still- in each new dawn.

Sherry, I am so sorry. May the memories of the love and life you shared with Tipper help comfort you at this painful time, and in the days to come.

Karen
